TERMS OF REFERENCE

TRAINING OF SERVICE PROVIDERS IN BASIC OBSTETRIC AND ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND SCANNING WITH CERTIFICATION

1. INTRODUCTION

The Family Planning Association of Malawi (FPAM) provides integrated SRHR and medical services including antenatal and post-natal care in its static clinics. According to new WHO antenatal guidelines and as part of good clinical practice, ANC providers should perform one ultrasound scanning before 24 weeks gestation to estimate gestation age.

Use of ultrasound scanning improves patient’s diagnosis and management. Ultrasound scanning assists service providers in identification of abnormal tissues growth, tumors, and cyst. It is against this background that FPAM after procuring portable scanning machines wants a consultant to train service providers on how to scan and interpret the findings.

In view of this, FPAM has secured Ultrasonic Diagnostic System model AU-580 which it intends to deploy for usage in some of its static clinics currently providing ANC and
