Request for Proposals for Legal Services

National Bank of Malawi plc (the Bank) is inviting interested law firms with a minimum of six (6) years post- admission experience of the senior partner of the firm to submit written proposals to provide legal services to the Bank. As the Bank’s lawyers, the selected law firms will be expected to provide a wide range of legal services. The duration will be for a performance-based period of three (3) years from the effective date of the appointment.

Interested firms must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the required services and the information may include the firm’s profile including general qualification of partners, at least two references from other clients, descriptions of similar assignments undertaken, experience in similar conditions and availability of relevant and appropriate skills and expected legal fees.

The prospective law firms must have an in-depth and specialist understanding of a variety of banking law/regulatory issues. Relevant expertise should include but not limited to the following:

  1. Knowledge and experience of the laws relating to financial institutions and experience in banking laws.
  2. Knowledge and experience with regulatory issues/matters above
  3. Commercial Law
  4. Contract Law
  5. Company Law
  6. Employment & Labour Law
  7. Litigation
  8. Debt Collection
  9. Private Criminal Prosecution

 

The bids shall be assessed using the criteria below:

ComplianceThe level of compliance of the firm to subsisting Laws of Malawi and Regulations (Eg Legal Education & Legal Practitioners Act, Tax Regulations, Business Regulations, etc) and completeness of the proposal

Completed copies of proposals in sealed envelopes clearly marked “Proposal for Legal Services” should be submitted no later than 28th June 2024, to:

The Bank is not bound to accept the lowest or any bid but reserves the right to exercise choice of lowest evaluated, substantially responsive bid and can cancel the procurement proceedings at any stage.
