The Malawi Institute of Tourism (MIT) is a leading tourism and hospitality training and educational institution established in 1975 as a Government Hotel Training School and later in 1997 a Trust Deed was declared and the school was converted into the Malawi Institute of Tourism.
The mission of MIT is to sustainably provide quality and professional training responsive to the needs of tourism and hospitality businesses and professionals.
MIT operates three training campuses in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu and also three application hotels, namely Alendo Hotel in Blantyre, Lingadzi Inn in Lilongwe and Mzuzu Lodge in Mzuzu.
The Institute is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position;
Training Manager – Grade M2 (3 years renewable contract)
Overall Responsibility
The Training Manager reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for the Training staff in diverse areas of tourism, hospitality and management.
Purpose of the Job
To provide strategic leadership and guidance in the management and administration of training programmes by ensuring that programmes are of high quality and relevant to the needs of the current and prospective professional and employers.
MIT is seeking a self-driven and dynamic professional capable of inspiring and leading a team of training staff. As a senior management position, the ideal candidate must demonstrate the following attributes and competencies:
- Effective leadership ability with excellent communication, presentation, public speaking and persuasive skills.
- Critical thinking, creativity and strong interpersonal skills.
- A broad understanding of the tourism industry in Malawi will be an added advantage.
- Expertise in designing, managing, and evaluating training and education programs, as well as conducting research to address emerging industry trends
- Running of assessment centers.
Key Duties
- Leading and coordinating training programmes.
- Planning, developing and evaluating training courses.
- Formulating and implementing training policies.
- Leading in the curricula review.
- Carrying out research and consultancies.
- Appraising staff in the department
- Administering student enrolment activities.
- Liaising with practitioners in the tourism industry on matters affecting the field.
- Consolidating departmental budgets and monitor timely submission.
Qualification and Experience
Master’s Degree in Tourism or any related field from a recognized university, with not less than five years of relevant work experience.
