BACKGROUND
The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) is a Statutory Corporation established by the Investment and Export Promotion Act of 2024. It is mandated to promote and facilitate investment and exports in Malawi, facilitate allocation of land to investors and regulate, implement, monitor and supervise all aspects of the special economic zones
The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) is planning to recruit a Public Relations Manager and a Trade Promotion Officer to fill existing vacancy.
POSITION: Trade Promotion Officer Grade 5
The Trade Promotion Officer post is at Grade MITC5 on the authorized establishment. The Trade Promotion Officer will be responsible to the Senior Trade Promotion Officer at Grade MITC4. He/she will be instrumental to the effectiveness of the Trade Promotion Functions by supporting the Senior Trade Promotion Officer to work with executives of current or prospective investor companies, both foreign and local. He/she will also be required to consult and coordinate regularly with officials of government agencies as well as with local and municipal authorities, public and private utility and business service companies, financial institutions and local business associations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing written response to inquiries or requests for information/assistance received from exporters and importers.
- Following-up trade inquiries to determine specific interests and requirements.
- Registering trade leads and following-up activities reporting regularly for appropriate intervention.
- Organizing and delivering presentations at local and international trade promotion workshops, seminars, and conferences.
- Planning, scheduling, and implementing active marketing activities such as direct mail and telemarketing campaigns geared at attracting new export markets.
- Meeting with and providing information, counselling, and support to local and foreign buyers interested in exploring new business opportunities in Malawi.
- Assisting prospective buyers in arranging site visits and in obtaining necessary Government approvals, permits, and licenses.
- Receiving inquiries from potential exporters with products looking for markets.
- Advising prospective exporters on export process and sector specifics.
- Reporting monthly on the status of assigned trade leads.
- Carrying out other duties, as assigned.
QualificationsÂ
- Education: The officer should be a holder of a degree in Business Administration, Economics, Marketing or in a related field from a recognised institution.
- Experience: The Trade Promotion Officer should be a highly experienced professional with a minimum of 2 years of private sector experience in marketing, sales or public relations position.
- Skills:
- Good interpersonal skills
- Basic computer literacy
- Proficiency in one or more foreign languages would be an added advantage
Major Working Relationships
Trade Promotion Officer will work in collaboration with the Senior Trade Promotion Officer in all Trade responsibilities in relation with all stakeholders.
