SCHOOL FEEDING OFFICER (SFO)

The missionary community of Saint Paul the Apostle (MCSPA) of Benga Parish, Nkhotakota district is in partnership with Mary’s meals with a focus on a goal-to ensure that children are fed with a nutritious meal at their place of education. MCSPA is implementing both the conventional program and Community Based School Feeding program extending to 69, 656 Learners. To achieve this commitment, therefore the Missionary Community of Saint Paul the Apostle is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the post of a School Feeding Officer.

JOB OVERVIEW/PURPOSE

The SFO will play a key role in the day to day running of the school feeding Programme in ensuring that school-based activities are being carried out effectively and in accordance to Missionary community of Saint Paul the Apostle (MCSPA) and Mary’s Meals school feeding Delivery Model and the surrounding communities are participating to acceptable standards. The SFO will also play a link role between the school, community and MCSPA. This includes interfacing with community-based government field officers while continuously building and sustaining participatory community, stakeholder engagement as well as Programme data management and capacity building to all volunteers, teachers, School Feeding Committees and the communities in which Mary’s Meals operates in.

MAIN DUTIES INCLUDES:

  1. Conduct weekly and impromptu monitoring visits to all assigned schools as per the checklist guidelines while documenting, communicating, and resolving deviations.

  2. Facilitate the delivery of school feeding Programme supplies and equipment to supported schools and ensure maintenance and care of assets donated to these schools.

  3. Furnish the Delivery and MEL departments with records of food delivered to schools and provide a report on the same.

  4. Raise awareness and understanding of Mary’s Meals school feeding model amongst relevant stakeholders at a school and community level in a bid to promote support for the Programme.

  5. Conduct trainings and continuous refresher courses, coaching and mentorship activities to program volunteers on the importance of data accuracy in a bid to have credible information.

  6. Collect, collate, compile and share stock balances, enrolment, attendance, feeding days and volunteer information in a timely manner and ensure that proper feeding ratios are used and are aligned to MCSPA feeding instructions

  7. Hold community engagement sessions in collaboration with the School Feeding Committees, community members and other stakeholders to ensure support and ownership of the School Feeding Programme.

  8. Collaborate with line managers, schools, and stakeholders to implement and adhere to Missionary Community of Saint Paul the Apostle (MCSPA) child safeguarding policy.

QUALIFICATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENT

  • A Diploma in Community development/Social work, Education, Programme Management, Sociology or related social science.

  • First degree in all the above and/or relevant field is desirable

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Chichewa

  • Knowledge with Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • A valid motorbike riding license and the ability to ride a motorbike

  • At least 2 years’ experience in community development or related field preferably with communities in rural areas.
