JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safety, Health, & Environmental Quality Officer (SHEQ) to join our team. The SHEQ Officer will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive safety, health, and environmental program that ensures the well-being of our employees, customers, and the environment. This position requires a strong understanding of safety regulations and standards, the ability to identify and mitigate risks, and excellent communication and leadership skills.

POSITION: SAFETY, HEALTH, & ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY OFFICER

LOCATION: RUMPHI – MINE-SITE

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive safety, health, and environmental program that complies with all legal requirements and company standards.
  2. Conduct regular hazard assessments to identify potential risks and develop appropriate controls and procedures to mitigate them.
  3. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and regulations.
  4. Provide training programs to educate employees on their roles and responsibilities in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.
  5. Conduct regular safety inspections and take corrective actions to eliminate potential hazards.
  6. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  7. Maintain accurate records of safety, health, and environmental incidents, inspections, and audits.
  8. Collaborate with other departments to integrate safety, health, and environmental considerations into all aspects of operations.
  9. Provide extensive underground support in the mine and ensure a sufficient supply of support poles.
  10. Implement policies to prevent the careless cutting down of trees and promote environmental conservation.
  11. Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Applicants should have a minimum qualification of a Bachelor’s Degree in
  • Public/Environmental Health from a reputable institution
  • At least 3 years’ experience in Occupational Health and Safety (OSH).
  • Proven experience as a Safety, Health, & Environmental Quality Officer or similar role.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, environmental standards, and relevant legislation.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of Environmental and Social Impact Assessment
  • (ESIA) processes and principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and train employees on safety and environmental practices.
  • Must be able to conduct accident and incident investigation and report on the same.
