VACANCY ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE POSITION OF ROADS INSPECTOR (GRADE RA8)

The Roads Authority (RA) was created by Act No. 3 of 2006 to ensure that public roads are constructed, maintained or rehabilitated at all times; and to advise the Minister, and where appropriate, the Minister responsible for Local Government on the preparation and efficient and effective implementation of the Annual National Roads Programme.

The Roads Authority (RA) is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians to fill the vacant position of Roads Inspector (Grade RA8) tenable at its Regional Office- North in Mzuzu.

The role of the Roads Inspector is to monitor and gather data on conditions of designated public road network infrastructure within the Regional Office’s area of jurisdiction and assist in managing maintenance projects.

The Roads Inspector reports to the Senior Roads Inspector and is specifically responsible for: –

  1. Inspecting the road network on a regular basis and report on the road condition;
  2. Reporting on emergencies (such as wash-aways, accidents) and organize emergency road maintenance;
  3. Monitoring and report on activities of consultants and contractors;
  4. Liaising with stakeholder agencies and District and City Assemblies and
  5. Preparing periodic reports.

The desired candidate must have the following qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities: –

  1. Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized University;
  2. 5 years of working experience in related work;
  3. Must be computer literate;
  4. Registered Technician;
  5. Good computer literacy;
  6. Project management skills;
  7. Must have a working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations;
  8. Strong analytical and interpersonal skills;
  9. Problem solving skills and
  10. Good communication skills both oral and written.
