Background

Banja La Mtsogolo (BLM) is a Malawian Non-Governmental Healthcare Organization established in 1987. BLM provides quality Family Planning and Reproductive Healthcare including HIV/AIDS information and interventions. BLM is a senior member of the Marie Stopes International (MSI) Partnership which works in 43 countries. BLM exists to improve quality of life in Malawi through family planning and reproductive health care services. BLM serves over 800,000 clients annually and makes a significant contribution to national family planning objectives. The organization has national coverage, operating through 25 clinics, numerous outreach clinic sites and Public Sector Strengthening (PSS) facilities.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant position of Research Assistants.

Research Assistants (15 Positions)

The Research Assistants will be reporting to the assigned team leaders and will be responsible for conducting survey data collection using mobile application tools (Kobo/ODK) in BLM centers, Outreach sites and Public Sector Strengthening (PSS) facilities and will be required to adhere to the confidentiality and privacy guidelines stipulated by BLM.

Duration: This exercise is expected to be executed in December 2024 involving fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities and Roles:

  • Seeking informed consent with potential study participants.
  • Conducting face to face interviews with study participants.
  • Conduct data collection using mobile application tool.
  • Maintaining coherent records of daily activities and provide updates to team members.
  • Coordinating and working closely with service providers on study activities.
  • Record responses accurately using the provided questionnaire.
  • Any other related duties as seen fit by the principal investigator and team leaders.

Qualification, skills, and experience required:

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Health Sciences, IT/ Computer Science, Statistics, Social Sciences, or related field from accredited institution.
  • Prior experience with mobile-based data collection application and long duration field work.
  • Experience in conducting research activities.

Knowledge and other attributes required:

  • Ability to work in a team and cultivate team spirit.
  • Demonstratable track record of hardworking spirit, integrity, and discipline.
  • Demonstrate pro-choice values.
