About FAWEMA

The Forum for African Women Educationalists in Malawi (FAWEMA) is a registered non- governmental organization which brings together educationalists to support and promote education for girls and women in Malawi. We work in close partnership with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Gender, Ministry of Health and other Ministries and partners to support girls and women to acquire education and training for development through advocacy and demonstrative interventions.

FAWEMA in partnership with The Mastercard Foundation is implementing a seven-year project from 2024 to 2030 called ‘Second chance pathways for increased access to tertiary education for marginalized young women and men’. The project’s objective is to increase the number of young women and men who can access and complete tertiary education, particularly in STEM – related courses, to enhance their opportunity to get dignified and fulfilling work.

To ensure quality delivery of the project, FAWEMA seeks to recruit highly motivated, well experienced and committed persons to fill the following position:

Project Officers (to be based in Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Blantyre) – 3 Positions

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Officer will perform the following duties among others:

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement activities that support the completion of project goals and objectives in coordination with the Project Manager.
  • Regularly provides technical inputs to all on-going project activities.
  • Ensures results-based implementation, monitoring, evaluation and documentation of outcomes of project interventions in the project highlighting their impact on partners.
  • Develop and maintain deliverables to track achievement milestones and overall project delivery within the constraints of scope, schedule, cost and quality.
  • Work closely with FAWEMA partners, members and volunteers towards building a support network for the project in the area.
  • Facilitate regular engagement with key district level stakeholders, ensuring regular information sharing, joint planning and monitoring.
  • Ensure documentation of project activities to meet reporting requirements of FAWEMA and strategic partners.
  • Ensure day to day planning and implementation of project activities.
  • Organize training activities and meetings for partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure prudent management of project resources for the region.
  • Submit monthly and quarterly reports to the Project Manager.
  • Carry out other duties related to the project as assigned by Management.

Qualifications Requirements     

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Science, Project Management or related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of work experience in program administration or other related fields.
  • Knowledge of development, education, gender issues and NGO work in Malawi.
  • Good experience in managing scholarship programs.
  • Experience in capturing and documenting results and lessons from program implementation for management decisions.
  • Good experience in managing donor finances in an NGO set up.
  • Experience mainstreaming gender considerations throughout the project cycle.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet very strict deadlines.
  • Proficient in key computer packages: Word, Excel, Power point, internet.
  • A self-starter that can work with minimum supervision and willing to work extra hours when the call of duty demands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details and ability to write high quality reports.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and ability to follow official systems and procedures.
