VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Founded in 2012, YAS is an institutional non-profit organization with a mandate focused on human rights and democratic governance. Our primary objective is to promote and defend human rights and democratic principles, with a special emphasis on young people aged 10 to 35 and marginalized groups such as young persons with disabilities, youth in conflict with the law, young women, and refugees. Our current Strategic Plan (2021-2025) outlines our mission as “To mobilise, organize, and build a revolutionary youth movement that proactively participates in wealth creation, economic justice, and democratic governance in Malawi.”
At YAS, we are deeply committed to empowering the youth population, encouraging individual agency, and fostering collective action in the defence and promotion of human rights and democratic governance. We work tirelessly to ensure that both public authorities and non-state actors fulfil their human rights obligations as outlined in the constitution and international law. YAS is seeking to recruit qualified, passionate, and dedicated professionals for the following position: Program Coordinator.
PROGRAM COORDINATOR FOR ANTI-CORRUPTION AND RULE OF LAW
The Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall management and coordination of the Anti-Corruption and Rule of Law Program and plays a key role in the Program Management Team (PMT) under the guidance of the Head of Programs (HOP). The position provides strategic leadership, oversight, and direction for all projects within the Program, ensuring alignment with YAS’s mission and goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the overall implementation of projects within the Anti-Corruption and Rule of Law Program, ensuring timely and quality delivery of results.
- Supervise and provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to all project officers working under the Program.
- Develop funding proposals to ensure sustainable program operations and continuous delivery of services.
- Conduct regular performance appraisals for staff within the Program, ensuring that individual and team objectives are met.
- Prepare and submit quarterly and annual technical reports to the Head of Programs, detailing progress, challenges, and opportunities within the Program.
- Develop and submit comprehensive annual work plans and budgets for the Program to ensure effective planning and resource allocation.
- Support the implementation of the organization’s Strategic Plan by aligning program activities with the overall strategy.
- Represent the Programs Directorate on technical and programmatic matters, including participation in relevant external meetings, forums, and workshops as delegated.
- Identify and evaluate risks associated with program activities, taking appropriate actions to mitigate these risks.
- Monitor and evaluate program activities regularly, ensuring compliance with the program evaluation framework, and conduct annual program evaluations.
- Monitor and manage all program expenditures, ensuring adherence to established financial policies and procedures.
- Oversee the proper management of all project funds, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and best practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements
- A minimum of Degree in governance and development-related fields such as Law, Political Science, Anti-Corruption, Human Rights, Development Studies, Education, Strategic Management, and any relevant development field from accredited academic institution. Candidates with masters will have added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in project management, preferably in the areas of anti-corruption, governance, human rights, and rule of law.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality reports and proposals.
- Ability to interact effectively with donors, partners, and high-level stakeholders, fostering strong relationships.
- Proven skills in resource mobilization, including proposal development and donor engagement.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience in team management, staff supervision, and performance appraisals.
