The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Malawi (BCMF-M) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the Malawi government in the health sector. Our mission is to improve the health and lives of children and families with HIV, cancer and blood disorders through high quality, high impact, ethical, state of the art comprehensive care and treatment, training of health professionals and clinical research. We have a vibrant and thriving maternal health program main site at Area 25 Health Centre that ensures prevention/reduction of stillbirths, neonatal deaths and maternal morbidity and mortality. We are situated within the Kamuzu Central Hospital premises, opposite Kamuzu College of Nursing.
BCMCF-M invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the following position of:
1 POSITION: Pharmacy Technician
CONTRACT DURATION: 1 year (renewable)
DUTY STATION: Area 25 Health Centre
STATUS: Full time (40 hours per week)
REPORTS TO: Medical Director Baylor Area 25 project / Facilities Administrator
Position Description:
The primary job purpose of the Inventory manager/ Pharmaceutical Technician is to develop and support the general pharmaceutical capacity and access to Maternal and Neonatal related pharmaceutical services at Area 25 Community Hospital. S/he is responsible for the quality of pharmaceutical services’ strengthening activities to ensure improved drug supply chain management and appropriate client care and work in partnership with MoH pharmacy
Duties and Responsibilities
- Inventory Management:
- Monitor and maintain stock cards of medications, medical supplies, and equipment. in coordination with supervisor
- Conduct regular stock checks and reconcile discrepancies.
- Prepare and submit inventory reports to clinic management.
2. Procurement and Reordering:
- Place orders for replenishing stock in line with program needs and budgets upon production of reports reflecting stock balances
- Ensure timely delivery of supplies to avoid shortages.
3. Storage and Organization:
- Ensure proper storage of medications and supplies according to safety and regulatory standards.
- Organize inventory for easy access and efficient dispensing.
- Maintains an organized and orderly pharmacy workspace.
4. Compliance and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of received and dispensed medications.
- Ensure compliance with local health regulations and standards.
- Produce monthly inventory reports
- Assist with end of year audit processes for stock count
5. Coordination and Communication:
- Liaise with suppliers and health Facility authorities for procurement and reporting.
- Support clinic staff in addressing inventory-related issues.
6.Training and Oversight:
- Train other staff on inventory management protocols.
- Supervise and delegate inventory-related tasks when necessary.
7. Monitoring & Evaluation tasks:
- Strengthen maternal and neonatal related pharmaceutical data management in line with the national Health Management Information System and LMIS in coordination with their supervisor
- In liaison with M&E, analyze the quarterly report to ensure correct drug quantification and match disbursements to clients seen
Competencies and experience required
- Diploma: Pharmacy related studies and/or experience is a plus
- Familiarity with maternal and neonatal pharmaceuticals, reagents and standard operating procedures and supply chain management
- Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Previous experience with maternal and child health program preferred
