The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Malawi (BCMF-M) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the Malawi government in the health sector. Our mission is to improve the health and lives of children and families with HIV, cancer and blood disorders through high quality, high impact, ethical, state of the art comprehensive care and treatment, training of health professionals and clinical research. We have a vibrant and thriving maternal health program main site at Area 25 Health Centre that ensures prevention/reduction of stillbirths, neonatal deaths and maternal morbidity and mortality. We are situated within the Kamuzu Central Hospital premises, opposite Kamuzu College of Nursing.
BCMCF-M invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of:
Position: Patient Attendant
Reports to: Program Manager
Location: Area 25 Health Centre
Position Description:
The patient attendant performs a number of routine tasks to help support patients, nurses, and other staff. This post is on a rotational basis in different wards
Duties and Responsibilities
- Sweeping, mopping and dusting in the wards and offices.
- Collection and delivering drug and orders from pharmacy.
- Making sure toilets and bathrooms are clean to prevent infection
- Emptying and cleaning dustbins
- Cleaning soiled instruments, drying and packing them in their sets
- Washing linen soon after operation to remove blood before taking it to the laundry
- Sterilizing
- Making sure that utensils used by patients are taken care of.
- Collecting and delivering linen from wards to laundry
- Delivering samples and collecting results from the lab
- Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time
- Check for resources
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of Malawi School Certificate of Education
- 2 years’ experience
- Good communication skills
