Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Assistant

We work across 11 districts in Malawi, including Lilongwe, Salima, Dedza, Dowa, Mzimba, Nicheu, Mangochi, Machinga, Balaka, Blantyre, and Kasungu
Job Description:
The MEAL Assistant will support the implementation of MEAL activities by ensuring systematic data collection, validation, analysis, and reporting of organizational programs. The position requires close collaboration with the MEAL Manager and team to ensure high-quality data management, report generation, and accountability to stakeholders.

Requirements:
- A Minimum of a Degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Statistics, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Prior experience in MEAL, data collection, or analysis is an asset
Skills and Competencies:
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g. SPSS. STATA, R) and familiarity with data collection tools such as ODK and Commcare.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills In English.
- Ability to translate complex data into accessible information for non- technical audiences.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Data Collection and Management:
- Support field teams in planning and executing data collection activities, ensuring the use of standardized data collection tools.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Assist with both quantitative and qualitative data analysis using software such as SPSS, STATA, R, or similar tools.
Accountability and Learning:
- Ensure the implementation of accountability mechanisms, such as feedback loops from beneficiaries, to improve program delivery.
Capacity Building:
- Assist in building the capacity of field staff and program teams in data collection, management, and analysis.
Database Management:
- Maintain and update the organizational MEAL database to ensure that all collected data is securely stored and easily accessible.
Surveys, Evaluations, and Research:
- Coordinate with field teams to manage the logistics of baseline, midline, and endline surveys, and any ad hoc evaluations. Program Evaluation and Impact Assessment:
- Support in the design and implementation of program evaluations to assess the relevance, efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability of programs
Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
- Assist in documenting lessons learned, best practices, and case studies to improve the quality of future programs.
Fieldwork and Monitoring Visits
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor the implementation of program activities, collect feedback from beneficiaries, and identify challenges.
- Analytical Skills: Basic understanding of data analysis techniques and the ability to interpret data meaningfully.
- Accountability: Strong commitment to accountability to both beneficiaries and stakeholders, ensuring feedback loops and transparency.
Tech Savvy:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with data management systems.
