Background

Founded in 1987, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is a global organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to over 2 million people in 47 countries. In Malawi, AHF is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health to strengthen access to quality of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and Sexually Transmitted infections (STI) treatment. The organization provides cutting edge treatment and medical care in some hard-to-reach health facilities located across five districts, Lilongwe, Dedza, Ntcheu, Nsanje and Chikwawa. Applications are requested from suitably qualified people to fill vacant position of Linkage Assistant for Montfort Hospital. Vacancy is for Chikwawa District. The vacancy will need one personnel.

Roles and responsibilities

Linkage Assistants will contribute to AHF’s mission by reaching out to HIV positive clients and encouraging them to come into care and monitor their stay and engagement in the system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the HIV care/treatment and HIV testing teams to reach out to HIV positive clients, encourage them to come into care and monitor their linkage and engagement in the system
  • Follow up clients through phone calls; arrange home visits and work with community structures to reach newly diagnosed HIV positive clients that haven’t been linked to care and treatment.
  • Make notes and regularly update appropriate linkage and retention tools when they contact client. Work with the clinic team to identify, follow-up and support clients that miss clinic appointments and those that disengage from care.
  • Support Health Surveillance Assistants in conducting community follow up of clients that cannot be reached by phone.
  • Reach out to partners of clients that recently tested HIV positive and invite them to the clinic for HIV counselling and testing services.

Education and Experience:

  • Holder of Malawi School Certificate of Education
  • Certified HIV Diagnostic Assistant
  • At least a certificate or advanced diploma in any of the following disciplines: Community Development, Psychology, Guidance & Counselling, Social Work &, or any related relevant field, training in HIV and AIDS care and management
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with clients in public health institutions, community services or medical setting.
  • Must have experience working with people living with HIV and AIDS, or other chronic illnesses

  • Sensitivity to ethics and confidentiality of HIV/AIDS Client issues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent report writing, prompt and effective communication using charts and graphs.
  • Willingness to relocate and work in remote health facilities of Malawi
