IT Infrastructure Development & Support Officer

Microloan Foundation (Malawi) Limited is a microfinance institution which provides financial services and training support to help women set up and manage sustainable businesses in their communities.

We are currently seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to assist development and support of the IT infrastructure in line with strategic growth aspirations.

OVERVIEW

The IT Infrastructure Development & Support Officer provides efficient and effective MIS development and technical support services to MICROLOAN’s business units. The role includes responsibility for assuring the security and integrity of the ICT platform, resolving technical issues that arise at the end-user level, managing user access, and implementation and enforcement of ICT policies and procedures that ensures ongoing availability of the system to deliver financial services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

1. INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

  • Design, develop, test and deploy software applications to support MLF operations Develop back-end components for multiple solutions within the MLF ecosystem
  • Conduct End of Day processes and generate per period reports as requested from time to time.
  • Carry out database design by defining how data is stored, organised, and accessed within databases, considering factors like data volume, performance, and scalability against the product roadmap.
  • Database design and implementation using MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL Develop, publish, and schedule Power Bl or Bank BI reports and dashboards.
  • Integrate REST APIs for effective data flow between multiple platform modules (including into the central core banking system) in line with the platform integration architecture.
  • Document system changes, updates and technical specifications
  • Identifying options for potential solutions to the systems and assessing them for both technical and business suitability
  • Ensure data security throughout the platforms.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve code quality.
  • Use code versioning systems to store organisation source code

2. INFORMATION SYSTEMS SUPPORT

  • Provide the first point of IT support contact with respect to office technology setup and end-user training and support, including laptops, apps, phones, scanner, printers, email, routers, and computers;
  • Install and configure computer hardware operating systems and applications as requested;
  • Collaborate with the IT Manager and Operations Manager to procure computer hardware and software from reputable suppliers;
  • Assist staff or clients through a series of actions, either face to face; email or over the telephone to help set up systems or resolve issues;
  • Troubleshoot technical issues to resolution, expedite the repair of hardware faults and software configuration problems, or where required, escalate to the relevant supplier in a timely manner;
  • Provide technical assistance to project teams and undertake technical project roles when required to support major activities such as the roll-out of new applications and solutions;
  • Assist with evaluating and managing risks to the integrity of the IT infrastructure inherent in such activities.

3. IT INFRASTRUCTURE SECURITY

  • Ensure system reliability and data security is maintained at a high standard by conducting ongoing and proactive monitoring of all platforms;
  • Assist with conducting ongoing security risk and vulnerability assessments for defined business applications and IT installations across the business and provide advice and guidance on the application and operation of elementary physical, procedural and technical security controls;
  • Provide day to day management of access to the ICT architecture including logons, passwords, printing and access to files/ user areas;
  • Create new user access for newly onboarded employees and use a standardized checklist to immediately remove access to the entire ICT platform for staff that have exited the organization by resignation, termination or redundancy;
  • Undertake routine system and hardware maintenance tasks such as running specialized network monitoring and system protection, server management, patch management and malware control to ensure platforms are running effectively:
  • Ensure that only appropriately licensed and legitimate software are installed on the company’s ICT system and provide ongoing awareness to staff on the dangers of non-compliance with the IT policy;

4. OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS

  • Log all incidents and service requests in MICROLOAN’s designated Helpdesk system;
  • Manage Helpdesk tickets by planning and prioritising systematically to minimise backlog and ensure operational efficiency:
  • Maintain and develop excellent working relationships with key suppliers by conducting dealings in a professional and appropriate manner;
  • Assist with the ongoing development of IT related policies and procedures, including appropriate controls around access rights and responsible use of all of MICROLOAN’S IT platforms;
  • Conduct periodic audits of system generated reports and bring to the attention of your manager any identified deficiencies in the data being reported;
  • Continually research and investigate new or improved ways of working to ensure the ICT system is operating at its most effective and efficient state in support of business priorities;
  • Maintain an up to date inventory of all ICT related assets by location and category then undertake a quarterly reconciliation exercise with the Finance team to ensure that assets are fully accounted for and their depreciation are being appropriately recorded;
  • Monitor, anticipate and communicate any adverse developments/events in the IT environment that may have a significant negative impact on MICROLOAN’s ability to achieve day to day operational objectives.
