Outreach Development Program (ODP)

Outreach Development Program (ODP) is seeking a Human Development Facilitator (HDF) to carry out community organising work in Kasungu. Facilitates participatory human development (PHD) process, a form of community-led development, in rural communities to enable people to resolve their poverty-related issues, develop their capabilities, raise their consciousness, and organise themselves.

POSITION: HUMAN DEVELOPMENT FACILITATOR (HDF)

Location: Kasungu

Responsibilities

  • Enable the people to collectively resolve their community problems, needs and issues through PHD Process
  • Develop people’s capacity in problem solving, project development and organisational management.
  • Facilitate formation of groups or organisation/s which will sustain development work in the village.
  • Document community studies and updates on issues, projects and organisational development of the partner village.
  • Formulate field operation plans – quarterly and monthly
  • Conduct 3 days’ field work per week.
  • Submit agreed reports, stories, photos and other required documents in the different levels of the training
  • Provide a major role in networking of the people in the area with resource agencies, including local government offices.
  • Assist in ensuring cooperation and coordination between and among project team and project partners

Qualifications

  • College degree or some college-level experience in social sciences or other subject suited/related to community-led development work.
  • Community organising experience. Significant experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree.
  • Academic intelligence, social/cultural intelligence, and/or indigenous intelligence.
  • Awareness about poverty and social realities.
  • Emotionally mature
  • Capable of carrying out work that is physically demanding (i.e. spending long days on your feet and walking over difficult terrain)
  • Possessing the basic attitudes necessary in PHD work, i.e., open to accepting and learning from mistakes, has the interest and initiative to learn, is a critical and creative thinker, democratic, disciplined, able to integrate and be comfortable with poor people.
  • Have no other commitments (be it ideological or otherwise) whose principles, practice and time demand are in conflict with PHD work.
  • Applicants with motor bike licence shall have added advantage.
