VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)
The Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) carried out a Functional Review process, which resulted into a new Organisational Structure and Staff Establishment. Following approval of the Staff Establishment and Organisational Structure by Government, KUHeS conducted a placement exercise for existing employees. However, a substantial number of key positions are yet to be filled. The University would like to fill some of these vacant positions as part of the Functional Review implementation process.
The University is therefore inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following positions:

Department : Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research Responsible to : Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research
Responsible for : Research and Grants Manager
Innovation and Technology Transfer Specialist
Senior Research and Grants Management Officer.
Purpose of the Job
To provide coordination, promotion and administrative services to support research and innovation activities in the University
Key Duties and Responsibilities
∙ Providing leadership to academics in identifying and
communicating opportunities for research funding
∙ Developing, implementing, monitoring and reviewing research policies, plans, strategies and programmes
∙ Promoting interdisciplinary research and mentorship of junior members of staff in research
∙ Developing internal grant and pre-review mechanisms to ensure the strongest possible proposals are submitted for review
∙ Assessing research activities, processes and infrastructure and implementing improvements
∙ Directing and coordinating institutional research information exchanges with other institutions
∙ Organizing and facilitating research dissemination for a and outreach activities
∙ Managing and updating research and innovations data ∙ Participating in marketing and mobilizing resources for research agenda
∙ Vetting institutional research proposals and leading in budgeting for research activities
∙ Overseeing and fostering compliance to grants financial agreements and other terms and conditions
∙ Providing oversight in the development, preparation and facilitation of a variety of short courses, workshops, meetings, and conferences designed to enhance research skills
∙ Providing leadership and guidance in the provision of clinical trials support services in the University, including clinical trial coordination and monitoring
∙ Providing leadership and guidance in the provision of data management and statistical support services in the University ∙ Serving on various boards and/or committees whose functions relate directly to the University’s research enterprise
∙ Preparing periodic reports
Minimum Education, Qualification and Experience
∙ PhD in relevant field
∙ 8 years professional experience in research management in a university, research institute or hospital setting.
Desirable Qualities
Leadership: ability to direct, supervise and mentor others.
Fiscal management: ability to prepare and execute budgets as well as controlling expenditure.
Organizational skills: ability to set and implement systems and develop operational procedures and policies.
Effective communication: ability to present information in a professional manner in various settings and mediums, including the media.
Writing skills: ability to create, compose and edit written materials, including minutes and reports.
Interpersonal skills: ability to work effectively in a diverse community with people from different backgrounds.
Accountability: ability to instill a culture of honesty and integrity.
