Story Workshop Educational Trust (SWET)
Story Workshop Educational Trust (SWET) is a leading local, independent, non-profit and non-partisan development media NGO that has been operational in Malawi since 1997.
SWET uses radio, video/TV and theatre for development (TFD) and theatre for policy advocacy (TPA) to promote education, health, food security, good governance, human rights and environmental management in order to contribute towards a well-informed, healthy, self-reliant and food-secure rural population that practices democratic values.
In order to effectively realise its objectives and achieve strategic growth, SWET would like to hire highly qualified, experienced, self-motivated, team-oriented and mature individuals, who are willing to work in a busy NGO environment, to fill three vacancies as outlined below:
Head of Programs and Resource Mobilization (One position)
Job Title: Head of Programs and Resource Mobilization (HoPRM)
Job Grade: SWET 2
Department: Programs
Reporting to: Executive Director
Positions reporting to the job: Project Coordinators, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer
Overall Responsibility
To provide leadership and quality control in the planning, developing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all SWET programs in accordance with SWET Strategic Plan and resource mobilization in tandem with SWET identity.
Key Job Responsibilities
Supporting the Executive Director
To provide timely information to the Executive Director.
- Provide information on the status of radio/ video program production and all related information regarding scheduling, audience response, broadcast cost, casting, etc.
- Provide information regarding field trips and other related activities such as, liquidation of advances, etc.
- Provide information regarding monitoring and evaluation and other related activities.
- Provide information regarding community mobilization activities and other related activities such as partnerships, etc.
- Provide information regarding scripting and other related activities.
Networks and partnerships
To develop and engage in appropriate networking and partnership building.
- Develop partnerships with community, district, national or international stakeholders.
- Develop partnerships with other agencies involved in development communication.
Program management
To lead in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of all SWET programs.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Oversee the planning of all SWET programs.
- Oversee the implementation of all community out-reach interventions.
- Oversee the monitoring and evaluation of all community out-reach interventions.
- Oversee the reporting of all community out-reach interventions.
- Oversee deployment of human resource in all community out-reach interventions.
- Supervise field trips and ensure timely liquidation of field advances.
Strategic Plan
To support the ED in the development and review of SWET strategic plan.
- Ensure SWET activities are in line with the local, national, and international socioeconomic development frameworks.
- Lead in the periodic development or review of the SWET Strategic Plan.
- Ensure that SWET programs are planned, implemented, monitored, evaluated and reported in the most professional manner possible.
- Ensure that all activities are in line with SWET thematic areas.
Strategic Communication
To ensure high quality strategic communication application.
- Ensure an evidence-based approach to development communication that builds on conceptual models.
- Ensure emphasis on audience involvement and participation, throughout project planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Ensure that SWET media products reach multiple audience segments.
- Ensure communication approaches that promote the creation of social support.
- Ensure a creative use of mass media and multi-media channels.
- Ensure that all SWET communication products use an “enter-educate” approach.
- Ensure sustainability activities of communication
Resource mobilization
To lead on donor identification and liaison, identification of serving projects, development, project reporting androposal relations in client order to promote excellent relationships with funding agencies and secure continued funding for the development of SWET’s activities.
Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Standards
- Development of resource mobilization strategy.
- Implementation of resource mobilization strategy.
- Engage with private sector, academia for service level agreements.
- Retention of donor community and private sector.
- Direct the overall financial and treasury policies of SWET
- Oversee the creation and production of presentations for targeted and imaginative marketing of SWET’s programs using edutainment methodologies
- Advice the ED in all matters to do with donor relations, service projects, proposal development, project reporting ad client relations
- To lead SWET management in securing project extensions from donor agencies
- In liaison with the Head of Finance and Administration, oversee the implementation of budgets of all funded projects
- In liaison with the Head of Finance and Administration, assist management in the linked use of SWET resources to achieve maximum costs- effectiveness and efficiency
- Research and identify a broad range of potential donors for SWET
- Assist management in task management and personnel performance evaluation.
- Liaison with Head of Programs & Resource Mobilization on all matters meant to demonstrate work done and impacts of SWET’s programmatic activities.
- In liaison with Media and Communications Manager identify and manage studio time for service projects.
- Performs other duties related to the job as assigned from time to time.
Prerequisite skills:
- Solid and proven track record in developing, implementing and evaluating programs.
- Sound knowledge of relevant implementation skills and social change theories.
- Experience in providing technical assistance related to project implementation.
Performance management skills - Excellent advisory, consensus building, and networking capabilities with an emphasis on bringing together donors, government, private sectors and NGO sector.
- Strong working relationships and solid links with relevant organizations in the field community development.
- Proven experience in implementing mentorship programs.
- Demonstrable professional maturity, resourcefulness and attention to detail.
- Result-oriented.
- Proven experience in proposal writing.
- Proven track record in producing work plans.
- Solid interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong grasp of the current and critical issues pertaining to SWET thematic areas.
- Clear understanding of the social-economic social-political and social-cultural fabric of the Malawi society.
- Understanding of story development and radio/video production processes.
Experience:
- 6 years’ experience at senior management position of a development communication or mass media organization.
- A strong background in strategic communication or social behaviour change (SBC)/mind-set change.
Academic Qualifications:
A minimum of Masters in Development Studies, Project Management or any related field.
