Program Description
Employing a market-led approach, TechnoServe plans to implement a legume and oilseed value chains project in Lilongwe and Dedza, Malawi. The program will focus on creating sustainable and inclusive market systems that benefit smallholder farmers. By facilitating partnerships and fostering linkages between smallholder farmers and these market actors, TechnoServe will improve access to quality inputs, technical knowledge, and financial services. Through continuous capacity building and leveraging local institutions, the project aims to build resilient value chains that drive long-term economic growth, improve food security, and promote environmental sustainability in Lilongwe and Dedza
Job Summary:
The field officer will be responsible for farmer organization, training and demonstration of farming technologies and related fields.
Primary Functions & Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular field visits to assess the needs and conditions of smallholder farms.
- Organize and deliver training sessions and workshops for farmers on modern agricultural techniques, resource management, and technology use.
- Lead the development of agricultural technical standards training manuals, guides and other implementation to support farmer learning and adoption of new practices
- Establish demonstration farm and conduct participatory trials and research; and demonstrate comparative results of improved agro-based production methodologies.
- Monitor progress of agricultural activities and initiatives, collecting data on outcomes and impacts document lessons learnt and best practices.
- Ensure close communication and coordination with project team district authorities and community elders through regular visits participation in meeting organize joint field visits and submission of reports.
- Provide recommendations to farmers on improving soil fertility and irrigated agronomic measures
- Facilitate community forums and discussions to address gender issues, equitable distribution of agricultural inputs and support. and promote collaboration between men and women farmers.
- Inform farmers of Grievance Address Mechanisms available at community level and monitoring the status and outcomes of raised grievances.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Agriculture Agronomy or Agriculture related qualification
- At least 3 years of progressive work experience in the similar roles in the field of food security and nutrition livelihoods, agricultural extension value chain and marketing projects with INGOs
- Experience in agricultural marketing and business linkages; delivery of field level extension activities; organizing trainings and delivery; and training received in related subjects
- Knowledge of climate-smart agriculture and sustainable development practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with farmers and communities.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
- Should be able to ride a Motorbike with a class A License
Good spoken and written skill and possess good skills in report writing.
Travel: Local Travel expected
