Title: Energy and Environment Program Manager

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Energy and Environment Program Manager to lead our environmental sustainability and energy efficiency efforts across our projects in our catchment area. This role is vital in reducing Orant Charities Africa’s environmental footprint, ensuring the sustainable use of energy, and driving initiatives that support our mission of improving the quality of life in the communities we serve.
The successful candidate will develop and implement strategies to reduce energy consumption, manage resources efficiently, and lead projects that promote renewable energy, clean water, waste reduction, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Key Responsibilities
The job holder is expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities;
- Work closely with the Country Director to develop and implement environmental and energy strategies that align with Orant Charities Africa’s sustainability goals and objectives.
- Oversee energy management programs in our facilities and projects, ensuring the efficient use of energy and the adoption of renewable energy sources.
- Monitor, track, and analyze energy consumption, emissions, water usage, and waste across all operations to identify areas for improvement.
- Lead environmental initiatives, such as permaculture, climate change adaptation, water catchment management, reforestation programs, sustainable farming practices, solar power adoption and waste management.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations in all operational areas, including adherence to national and international environmental standards.
- Build partnerships with local communities, government agencies, and NGOs to promote sustainable energy and environmental initiatives.
- Provide training and education to staff and communities on environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and resource conservation.
- Prepare reports on environmental impact assessments, energy savings, and sustainability achievements for internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage budgets and resources allocated to environmental and energy projects, ensuring efficient use of funds.
- Design and implement a program to improve access to solar and wind energy products in the community.
- Stay informed of the latest trends and technologies in renewable energy, environmental conservation, and sustainable development.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Energy Management, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in energy management, environmental sustainability, or a similar role, ideally within a non-profit or humanitarian organization.
- Strong understanding of renewable energy solutions, energy efficiency technologies, and sustainable development practices.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and best practices in Malawi, especially in the areas of energy, water, and waste management.
- Experience managing projects in remote or rural areas with limited infrastructure is preferred
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and engage with local communities and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
