In Malawi, MSF collaborates closely with the Ministry of Health and the local community, particularly in the Cervical Cancer project in the Blantyre and Chiradzulu districts, as well as the CBO Project in Zalewa and Dedza District.

MSFF is looking for its Blantyre Cervical Cancer Project Office:

Driver – 1 POSITION

Workplace : Blantyre and Chiradzulu

Type of contract : 1 Year Fixed Term Contract with possibility of extension

Start date: March 2025

Main purpose of the position

Performing the tasks of transporting authorized goods and passengers in an MSF vehicle, ensuring its technical and safety conditions and respecting the country’s traffic rules and MSF security rules, to provide a safe, smooth and efficient service.

Job Summary

  • Checking daily, the technical conditions of the assigned vehicle (state of the tires, oil, fuel, brakes, radio equipment, spare parts, etc.), performing weekly check according to the MSF Logbook, refilling it when necessary, and keeping it clean to ensure it can be driven in perfect conditions.
  • Ensuring the security of passengers in the vehicle, ensuring that all passengers have fastened their seatbelt, driving carefully, observing speed limits and traffic rules in the country as well as MSF security rules, to avoid car accidents.
  • Ensuring all passengers have all necessary papers in order before travelling and ensuring non-MSF staff sign disclaimers of responsibility before using the vehicle.
  • Ensuring correct loading and unloading of the vehicle, submitting the documents to the receiver of the goods, checking the status of delivered goods, returning the duly completed documents to Logistics and ensuring that the goods have the necessary documents.
  • Ensuring that all vehicle documents and the driver’s driving license are valid and in the vehicle.
  • Informing the line manager of any incident involving the transportation of passengers and/or goods.
  • Knowing how to use all types of radios, codes, call numbers and radio alphabets by heart and communicating
  • with base according to MSF communications policy to inform the driver’s position and any potential implications.
  • Knowing and respecting the security rules related to vehicle movements, specifically those related to customs, checkpoints and roadblocks.
  • Informing the base of his/her movements, from departure through to arrival, on a systematic basis, stating the presence of passengers and citing their names (expatriates and national personnel).
  • Justifying any detours, trips or stops that were not planned by an MSF manager.
  • Helping patients being transported to climb into and out of the vehicle if they are incapable of doing it themselves.
  • Cleaning the vehicle for services (interior, exterior and engine) and assisting the Mechanic during services and work.
  • Maintaining his/her vehicle in good order (internal and external cleaning) and regularly checking his/her equipment is in good working order (spare wheel, jack, straps, ropes, tools, etc.).
  • Carrying out a hand over (at the beginning and end of the period) of his/her vehicle when another driver uses the vehicle.
  • Being able to always justify his/her fuel consumption.

Requirements

Education : At least a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)

Experience:

  • Essential 2 years minimum of previous driving experience with a Valid Driving License C1.
  • Those with PG will have an added advantage.
  • Desirable experience with specific vehicles to use (4×4)
  • Good knowledge of country roads.
  • Desirable previous experience in MSF or other NGOs

Languages: English and Chichewa essential

Knowledge: Desirable knowledge of basic mechanics
