The Global Health Informatics Institute (GHII) is a non-profit organisation working at the intersection of science, engineering and global health to address problems of global health importance through development of local solutions and capacity (https://www.ghii.org). GHII is inviting applications from suitably qualified, motivated, hardworking and enthusiastic individuals to fill the Driver position on 1-year renewable contracts. This position will support activities under the Neotree project-a digital learning health system that empowers nurses and doctors to deliver high-quality neonatal care via real-time data capture, clinical decision support, training and education, and data visualization within a single platform.

Job Purpose

Responsible for transporting Neotree personnel, equipment and supplies during the set-up and ongoing implementation across Kasungu District. Ensuring that the project vehicle is well maintained, clean and in good condition.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe driving of the project staff, equipment and supplies to and from specified locations where the team is implementing project activities in a timely manner.
  • Drive carefully at all times to ensure the safety of passengers, other road users and the assigned vehicle.
  • Ensure that both you and passengers use seat belts at all times while driving.
  • Follow all applicable vehicle use and traffic laws including speed and passenger limit regulations.
  • Ensure adequate fueling of the vehicle at all times.
  • Ensuring adherence to passenger limits, both seated and standing.
  • Keeping the company vehicle clean and properly maintained by performing regular washing, cleaning and vehicle maintenance.
  • Keep accurate records of all trips in the vehicle log books and submit a month-end summary of vehicle usage to the supervisor.
  • Develop and follow approved maintenance schedule for project vehicle(s).
  • Regularly checking vehicle safety such as tyres, brakes, turn signals, mechanical equipment, etc.
  • Monitoring and reporting fuel consumption, mileage, and passenger numbers.
  • Report any accidents, faults, incidents or injuries involving the vehicle or its passengers to the supervisor immediately.
  • Report any fault to the supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Assisting in loading and unloading project items and assisting in technical work in the field.
  • Return vehicles to designated secured compounds at the end of the day. This includes ensuring that the project vehicle is returned before it is dark unless permitted by the supervisor.
  • Ensure that the project vehicle is properly registered and has all the necessary equipment and tools.
  • All other duties that are customarily performed by other persons in similar positions.

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Minimum of a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
  • Clean and valid driving license (Class C) with a minimum of 3 years driving experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently.
  • Defensive driving skills
