DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Managing Director, the incumbent is responsible for participating in the development of Bank strategies and plans while ensuring their alignment with short-term and long-term objectives; developing a high-performance culture and, ultimately overseeing all business support activities to ensure they deliver the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission of the Bank. The role is also responsible for driving institutional change and continuous innovation.

Key Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:

1. Bank Strategy:

  • Development, implementation and monitoring and review of the overall strategy, cascade of that strategy into functional/operational strategies or plans; engagement of staff in strategy implementation through performance management; facilitate/contribute to annual, mid-term and quarterly strategy implementation reviews.
  • Development of an Organisational culture that reflects Centenary Bank’s values, promotes accountability and high performance, and enables staff to deliver outstanding results for customers and our shareholders.

2. Business Growth and Relationship Management:

  • Support the development of business growth and revenue generation to achieve the overall strategic objective.
  • Build external and internal partnerships by working with relevant stakeholders to achieve the desired growth.
  • Act as the bridge between the Bank and external partners, clients and agencies.
  • Promote and effectively communicate the Bank’s programs and accomplishments.
  • Capably represent the Bank at official functions and meetings.

3. Process Management:

  • Lead the development of Bank systems, procedures, and resources required to fill its mandatory compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Direct the creation of policies and procedures necessary for the operation of the Bank and implement all policies and procedures adopted by the Board of Directors
  • Oversee compliance with all Reserve Bank of Malawi directives and regulations and all laws of banking.

4. Credit Risk Management:

  • Develop and implement credit risk management strategies to grow the Bank’s portfolio whilst maintaining acceptable portfolio quality in line with the Bank’s credit.

5. Risk Management:

  • Lead the development and implementation of a strong Risk, Compliance and Governance Framework across the organization.
  • Monitor the banks risk management function to ensure that the bank has an integrated enterprise risk management framework in place.

6. ICT Management Oversight:

  • Responsible for overseeing the proper management of ICT infrastructure and projects in the Bank.

7. People Management/Leadership:

  • Responsible for overseeing the proper management of human resources in the Bank.
  • Line manage the heads of Operations, Compliance, Risk Management, Credit, Projects and Cyber Security, HR and Administration.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Masters’ degree in Banking, Economics, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Marketing or any business-related field
  • 10 years’ executive management experience in the banking sector in general and in operations in particular
  • Strong business knowledge of support functions in financial services: compliance, risk management, operations, ICT and HR and Administration.
  • Executive leadership competences: a leader of leaders in the financial services.
  • Strategic thinking competences: strategic planning, strategy development, strategy implementation, strategy evaluation.
