Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following vacant position tenable in our Risk Department at Head Office in Blantyre.
CREDIT RISK AND SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER
JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to Head of Risk, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing second line oversight on the Credit Risk and Sustainability risk management (ESG) in the Bank and ensure the Bank has well established sustainable business practices to minimise credit risks and maintain an environmental conscious Bank.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following, among other responsibilities:
- Review and develop credit risk management and Sustainability frameworks, policies, and models.
- Assess the bank’s resources for managing credit risk across all levels.
- Monitor compliance and escalate Risk appetite statement breaches to the Head of Risk.
Design and implement plans to mitigate credit risks. - Monitor adherence to all credit-related regulatory requirements; escalate breaches as necessary.
Investigates malpractices or irregularities in the Credit value chain. - Analyze and enhance credit processes; provide feedback to the Head of Risk.
- Evaluate the adequacy of credit losses provisions.
- Conduct regular stress testing and scenario analysis on the credit portfolio.
- Conduct lending research to inform the bank’s lending strategies.
- Conduct Credit risk profile assessments monthly and as advised by the Head of Risk/Risk Manager
- Prepare Credit risk review and assessments reports
- Ensure Risk register for the Credit function is up to date and follow through closure of undesirable exposures.
- Develop and manage strategies to mitigate sustainability risks and environmental impacts.
- Organize and conduct training on Environmental, Social, and Climate management systems for staff and clients
- Develop screening and assessment tools for Environmental, Social, and Climate risks.
- Engage with communities impacted by bank-funded projects to evaluate ESMP effectiveness.
- Act as the liaison for external stakeholders on sustainability risk matters
- Ensure compliance with credit approval conditions
- Conduct compliance reviews and assess major funding projects for Environmental, Social, and Climate implications.
- Update and implement the risk appetite for Environmental, Social, and Climate risks.
- Monitor ESG Key Performance Indicators (KPls)
- Prepare sustainability performance reports
- Conduct field reviews on Environmental, Social, and Climate management systems.
- Facilitate the development, testing, and maintenance of the Credit Function’s Business Continuity Plan (BCP).
- Coordinate BCP testing, including disaster recovery drills and alternative site simulations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- First Degree in Finance, Business Management, Commerce, economics or related qualifications.
- Certification in Credit Risk Management, Environmental, Social, and Climate Risk Governance Training will be an added advantage
- Between two (2) years to four (4) years of relevant experience in credit processes and management, and experience in sustainability (ESG) framework development, implementation and awareness.
