Islamic Health Association of Malawi (IHAM)

Islamic Health Association of Malawi (IHAM) is a local Non-Governmental Organization registered with the registrar general, CONGOMA, and NGO Board dedicated in improving the health care services in Malawi in conformity with Islamic teachings to all Malawians irrespective of faith and economic.

IHAM has 22 Health Facilities located in the South and Central Regions of Malawi. IHAM facilities are situated in urban, remote and hard to reach areas.

The objectives of IHAM include:

  1. To ensure that the health needs of poor and everyone are addressed
  2. To actively promote and support closer partnership among Islamic- related Health services, the Government of Malawi, and other stakeholders so that they speak with one voice.
  3. To Strengthen the Capacity of members in the provision of Health care.

In order to achieve the above objectives, IHAM in conjunction with Ministry of Health wishes to fill the following vacant positions to be based in our facilities in Blantyre and Mangochi.

Job Title: COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSE TECHNICIAN

Grade : (HJ)

Salary: Within the range of Grade HJ Salary Segment

Reporting To: Chief Nursing Officer

Location: Mangochi and Blantyre (Remote areas)

Department: Preventive Health Services

Qualification :

  • Must have Diploma in Community health Nurse obtained from recognized Institution.
  • Must be registered with Medical Council of Malawi. Must have not less than two years of Community health nurse experience under a busy hospital environment.

Duties

  • Build and maintain therapeutic relationship with patients, guardians, and fellow health workers and use appropriate communication skills at all times.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessment of patients/clients needing midwifery services
  • Use the midwifery process to access, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery services.
  • Identify actual and potential needs of women throughout the maternity cycle and provide the necessary care, management and refer where appropriate.
  • Implement measures for reducing maternal and infant mortality.
  • Promote preconception health and that of adolescent with emphasis on the girl child Help to develop and support a woman’s birth plan by providing advice about contraception and fitting contraceptive devices.
  • Run parenting classes as part of antenatal care
  • Adhere to standard precautions of infection prevention and control practices
  • Conduct proper handover of all patients bed by bed or (according to ward or Departmental policy) in shifts and workloads.
  • Provide advice and support to parents of new-borns; for example teaching new and expectant mothers how to feed their babies.
  • Monitor the foetus during labour and provide necessary support in delivery
  • Assist with care and monitor during labour and birth.
  • Any other duties deemed reasonable for the post.
