Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Malawi (BCMCF-M) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the Malawi government in the health sector. Our Mission is to provide high-quality, high-impact, highly ethical pediatric and family-centered health care, health professional training and clinical research, focused on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, malnutrition and other conditions impacting the health and well-being of children and families worldwide.
The Baylor-Tingathe program developed in 2008 initially responded to suboptimal uptake of PMTCT and pediatric HIV services in Malawi and has grown over the past 12 years to support the full cascade of HIV care and treatment services. The current CORE programming seeks to support Malawi in achieving epidemic control, by providing client focused care to people living with HIV from the time of diagnosis to linkage and full engagement in care. BCMCF-M’s CORE programming is funded by USAID, and is currently operating in 6 districts in Malawi. BCMCF-M is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of:
Job Title: Community Health Nurse (Cervical Cancer)
Location: Salima District Hospital
Duration: 1 year (Renewable)
Reporting to: District Lead
Job Summary
The Community Health Nurse (cervical cancer) will work in collaboration with the Ministry of Health providers and Community Health workers (CHWs) to increase awareness, demand and access to quality cervical cancer screening and treatment services and linking women living with HIV to these services to allow identification and treatment of pre-cancerous lesions and avoid the concerning trend of advanced cervical cancer disease presentation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General duties
- Deliver high quality cervical cancer screening using VIA and treat precancerous lesions using thermoablation according to national guidelines and protocols with health facility staff
- Implement strategies for optimizing cervical cancer screening and treatment at both Hub and spoke sites
- Implement and support systems of referral to VIA services from ART clinic
- Support and mentor Community health workers who assist with ART and cervical cancer services
- Ensure facility staff at both hub and spoke sites are up to date with current cervical cancer care and treatment practices
- Support CHWs AND CHPOs on health talks, linkage and follow up of clients
- Coordinate with the GYNAE team and make sure that all women that need histopathology and surgery and palliative care are assisted accordingly
- Ensure accurate documentation and timely submission of monthly and quarterly reports
Skills, qualifications and other requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of MOH clinical guidelines and standard operating procedures for Cervical cancer screening
- Diploma or degree in Community Health nursing or Nursing and midwifery
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in cervical cancer screening, cryotherapy and those with experience in thermal ablation will have an added advantage
- Passion and experience in care of women
- Motorcycle license an added advantage
- The successful candidate will service Salima District hospital and surrounding health facilities.
