THE ORGANISATION

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is the governing body of football in Malawi and was founded in 1966 with its main mission of effectively organizing, administering, developing and controlling the game of football in consistent with FIFA rules and regulations in a manner that will continuously improve the standard of football in the country. FAM is affiliated to FIFA, CAF, COSAFA and the Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS). FAM manages all Malawi national Football, Beach, Futsal teams for both men and Women. FAM seeks to hire a Communications Officer for the Head office situated in Blantyre, Chiwembe – Limbe.

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER (GRADE C4)

Job Summary

To maintain ensure that the association upholds its public image while working closely with Communications and Competitions Director to identify areas to improve their PR and brand initiatives including maintaining relationships with media outlets, draft press release statements and examine communication materials before approving the publication of content.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and effective implementation of the communications strategy and action plan
  • Increase awareness of FAM’s mandate and goals both nationally and internationally through assistance in the dissemination of information and public events;
  • Supporting the competitions and communications director in delivering the media elements, including driving significant increases in the quantity and quality of global coverage;
  • Support in the design, management, maintenance and continuous development of the website, intranet and information database and repository based on corporate requirements
  • Develop media communication products and press materials for awareness-raising, including drafting of media/press briefings and releases, distribution to the target groups
  • Work with competitions and communications director to ensure effective media monitoring and produce quarterly evaluation reports;
  • Effectively network with a group of core media personnel and journalists with the objective of developing and encouraging partnerships between FAM and media bureau services for media and advocacy support
  • Manage social media campaigns and day-to-day activities, including online advocacy, writing editorial, outreach efforts, promotions, etc.
  • Manage FAM Media Library and social networking sites including Facebook, X, and other similar community sites, and posting on relevant blogs
  • Act as media officer for various national teams and support member associations media relations and management
  • Assist Organizing Press conferences, exhibitions, open day and press tours for FAM’s facilities and activities.
  • Assist Organizing match day media facilities and accreditation requests from local, national and international media organizations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCES AND EXPERIENCE

Education and Experience

  • Degree in Journalism, Communications or a similar area that helps to develop good communication skills.
  • Minimum of 2 – 5 years of media or other communications experience.

Other Required Knowledge and additional Competences

  • Strong knowledge of crafting and projecting the organization’s public image.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with external partners.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously with an ability to work independently.
  • Collaborative approach to building relationships across teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other sports related software.
