About FAWEMA
The Forum for African Women Educationalists in Malawi (FAWEMA) is a registered non- governmental organization which brings together educationalists to support and promote education for girls and women in Malawi. We work in close partnership with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Gender, Ministry of Health and other Ministries and partners to support girls and women to acquire education and training for development through advocacy and demonstrative interventions.

FAWEMA in partnership with The Mastercard Foundation is implementing a seven-year project from 2024 to 2030 called ‘Second chance pathways for increased access to tertiary education for marginalized young women and men’. The project’s objective is to increase the number of young women and men who can access and complete tertiary education, particularly in STEM – related courses, to enhance their opportunity to get dignified and fulfilling work.
To ensure quality delivery of the project, FAWEMA seeks to recruit highly motivated, well experienced and committed persons to fill the following position:
Communication and Advocacy Officer (to be based in Lilongwe)- 1 Position
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Communication and Advocacy Officer will perform the following duties:
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports the formulation and implementation of project communications and advocacy policy and strategies.
- Provides inputs, content development, coordination of production and dissemination of press releases, publications, articles and sharing of project knowledge and successes.
- Provide inputs and information for elaboration of project communication strategy based on the Mastercard Foundation corporate communications strategy.
- Support to increased awareness of FAWEMA and the Mastercard Foundation’s mandate and goals through dissemination of information, organization of public events.
- In coordination with the project team, develop and prepare materials for marketing and awareness-raising including briefing materials and press releases.
- Organize the publicity, advocacy, knowledge sharing events and promotional opportunities for the project.
- Provision of logistics support to the events.
- Review of reference materials, identification of reference materials for retention. Maintenance of information database and photo library.
- Organize and implement the joint information campaigns for FAWEMA and the Mastercard Foundation partners.
- Liaise with media outlets to ensure that appropriate information and messages are reaching the public and partners, including preparing press releases.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase and improve public outreach.
- Prepare promotional material on the project, including pamphlets, videos, etc.
- Prepare communication reports for the Project Management Team and the Mastercard Foundation.
- Develop and maintain a project website for information dissemination.
- Provide support to colleagues in identification, documenting and drafting of best practices and lessons learned on the project.
- Organize training for the staff on effective communications and advocacy.
- Provide support to organization of the project’s workshops, seminars, training and delivery of outputs (products).
- Coordinates with various project partners, government and non-governmental agencies regarding update on project information.
- Perform other duties as required by management.
Qualifications Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mass communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Communications Strategy, Development Communication from accredited universities.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience at similar position in providing communication and advocacy packages to promote the activities of organization, preferably a development organization.
- Proficient in t computer packages (Ms Word, Publisher, Excel, etc.) and graphic designing.
- Experience in handling of web-based management systems.
- Must be fluent in in both English and Chichewa languages.
- Demonstrate safeguarding ethics and uphold high levels of integrity.
- Ensure commitment to promote the interests of the underprivileged young people.
- Demonstrate corporate knowledge and sound judgment.
- Takes personal responsibility and holds others accountable for delivering project ambitious goals for improving the life of the underprivileged young people.
- Team player with ability to facilitate teamwork.
- Facilitate and encourage open communication within the team and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
- Create synergies through self-control and ability to manage conflict.
- Learn, and share knowledge and encourage the learning of others.
- Ensure transparency in decision making processes.
