Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR)
The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the positions of College Directors for NRC and Bunda College. This is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the academic, administrative, and operational functions of the college. The Director plays a key role in ensuring academic excellence, fostering research and innovation, enhancing student services, and promoting the overall growth and development of the college.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Developing and implementing Strategic Plans, annual work plans, budgets, business/marketing and investment plans as well as maintaining efficient and effective financial management systems and ensuring overall economic and effective implementation;
- Providing overall College leadership and support on all academic, administrative and financial management by ensuring adherence to the academic calendar and deadlines for submission of all reports required by University Management;
- Coordinating and providing continuous institutional and on the job staff training and development in liaison with the University Registrar to ensure continued effective Performance of staff in line with the University’s HRD policy;
- Ensuring that curricula are adhered to and reviewed periodically by ensuring that there is a calendar for review of the curricula and ensuring the existence of a corresponding budget and approving its implementation;
- Submitting reports of the curriculum review exercise;
- Upholding high standards of academic teaching and learning at the College by ensuring the existence of a teaching and examinations timetable and ensuring that assessment structures are working;
- Chairing Heads and Deans meetings and other statutory committees as designated by
- University Management by ensuring that the committees are meeting and there is a proper record of minutes;
- Monitoring the development and implementation of academic regulations by observing problem areas of the academic rules and regulations and making recommendations to University central office for review.
- Managing the process of staff and student appeals by following up on staff and students’ appeals with the Office of the University Registrar;
- Managing the implementation of tracer studies by making provisions for periodic tracer studies and implementing the process and making use of the results in curricula review processes or review of teaching and learning processes;
- Managing the implementation of the Performance Management System (PMS) for all
- Staff and ensuring that their performance is appropriately monitored and evaluated; and
- Facilitating and coordinating the implantation of remedial strategies to improve teaching and learning for all students.
Qualifications and Other Requirements
- A PhD or its equivalent in a relevant field is required.
- Must be serving at the level of Senior Lecturer or higher at a recognized institution of higher learning.
- At least 5 years of experience in a senior academic or administrative leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience in research, teaching, and student supervision at the university level.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and lead a diverse team of faculty and staff.
- Knowledge of strategic planning, financial management, resource allocation, and project management
- Experience in liaising with government bodies, industry partners, and other academic institutions.
- A track record of fostering academic innovation and research excellence.
Terms and Conditions of Engagement
The successful candidates shall be engaged on a contractual basis for three (3) years, renewable subject to a satisfactory performance review at the end of the contract period.
The position of the College Director comes with an attractive compensation package in accordance with the LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service (2023), which includes competitive salary, benefits, and other entitlements as applicable.
