Global Health Informatics Institute (GHII)

The Global Health Informatics Institute (GHII) is a non-profit organization working at the intersection of science, engineering and global health to address problems of global health importance through development of local solutions and capacity (https://www.ghii.org). GHII in collaboration with Neotree Charity and University College London is implementing a UK Foreign, Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) and National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) funded project, Neotree.

Neotree is an innovative digital learning health system, developed in partnership with, and for nurses and doctors, empowering them to deliver high-quality neonatal care via real-time data capture, clinical decision support, training and education, and data visualization within a single platform. We are looking for a dynamic, passionate, and skilled clinician/nurse to be the clinical lead to support and deliver on the scale up and implementation of Neotree to one new secondary and ten new primary health facilities in Kasungu district, Malawi.

Position: Neotree – Clinical Implementation Specialist (Grade 11)

Duration: 5 months (with the opportunity to extend up to a maximum of Dec 2027)

Location: Kasungu (with regular travel to Lilongwe)

Purpose: The Clinical Implementation Specialist will be working closely with the Technical Implementation Specialist as part of an ‘implementation pair’ leading the set-up, training, implementation, and troubleshooting for Neotree across all sites. The Clinical Implementation Specialist will work with clinical staff across implementation sites and the project team at GHII, UCL, and the Neotree Charity to support the implementation and refinement of the Neotree platform, with support and supervision from a senior clinical consultant at UCL.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support the research and software development team with adapting the Neotree platform for primary care sites in Malawi, including completing on ground needs assessments and observations, developing appropriate clinical algorithms, and assessing feasibility of app functionalities within the context.
  • Roll out new Neotree app versions to local sites, including orienting clinical staff within sites to the platform and troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Lead on-ground training for healthcare workers on clinical components of Neotree Hardware and App in all new and existing sites.
  • Oversee the use and adoption of the Neotree app in new sites.
  • Develop processes for feedback on app functionality and errors from clinical staff across sites to the relevant clinical, research and software development teams.
  • Work with the clinical teams to identify improvements we can make to the Neotree platform to support existing clinical workflows, and sketch out new clinical workflows to enable the technology to support clinicians in a larger variety of tasks
  • Support setting up of data dashboards in facilities, including aligning on content and utilising for quality improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate quality improvement processes across sites leveraging the data dashboards.
  • Work alongside the technical leads to develop the drug and fluid calculator functionality of Neotree

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a clinical, nursing & midwifery or similar field or similar
  • Computer literate and skills in common data packages such as Excel or similar
  • Has undergone GIC training
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in implementing healthcare interventions in healthcare settings
  • Experience in training healthcare workers in clinical processes
  • Experience in quality improvement processes within healthcare settings
  • Skills and experience in working with tech-based platforms, including installing and troubleshooting apps.
