Public Procurement & Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA)
The Public Procurement & Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) was established by an Act of Parliament to regulate the procurement and disposal of Public Assets in Malawi. PPDA mission is to provide a professional, efficient, and effective regulatory, monitoring and oversight function on all public procurement and disposal matters. To accomplish its mission, PPDA is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following vacant positions.
Job Title : Chief Legal Services Officer
Grade: PPDA 5
Department:Â Corporate Services
Location: PPDA Offices, Lilongwe
Purpose of the Job
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the Chief Legal Services Officer will be responsible for providing legal support and advisory services to the Authority’s Management and staff.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Specifically, the Chief Legal Services Officer will be required to perform the following duties and responsibilities:
- Conducting litigations initiated by and against the Authority before the appropriate courts in close coordination with the directorate concerned, division and units
- Providing legal support in drafting and vetting of agreements, MoUs, policies and contracts for the Authority
- Providing legal advice and opinion on legal issues affecting the Authority
- Proactively resolving legal issues and providing solutions to avoid litigation
- Guiding the Authority in interpretation of laws regarding all aspects of its operations
- Setting up systems to ensure compliance with statutory requirements
- Evaluating the impact of evolving legal legislation and policies on the Authority’s operations
- Interfacing relevant parties on Authority’s behalf to handle litigation, obtain legal advice and legal services
- Producing periodic reports
- Any other duties assigned from time to time
Qualifications and Experience
- Applicants must have a Bachelor’s of Law (Honors) Degree from a recognized institution with at least five (5) years work experience on a similar position in a busy environment.
- Must be registered member of the Malawi Law Society

- Good drafting and analytical skills
- Ability to understand and interpret the relevant regulations
- Attention to detail while drafting any agreement
- Multi-tasking skills
- Quick learner; Self-starter and Proactive
- Willingness to stretch and work under pressure, as and when required to do so
- Independent worker who values adherence to timelines
