The Agricultural Research and Extension Trust (ARET) is Malawi’s premier institution in tobacco research, extension and training services. Established in 1995 and funded primarily by tobacco growers, ARET’s core activities include development and dissemination of tobacco technologies and training of tobacco stakeholders to sustain and improve agricultural productivity while conserving the natural resources.

An opportunity has arisen for highly motivated professionals with requisite academic qualifications and technical expertise to fill vacant positions as follows:

ASSISTANT LOGISTICS AND PROCUREMENT OFFICER

Job Purpose

The successful candidate will be expected to assist in strategizing and negotiating with suppliers and vendors to acquire most cost-effective deals and reduce procurement expenses. The position is tenable in Lilongwe

Key Functions

  • To assist in developing and implementing procurement policies and procedures that are inventive and cost effective.
  • Analyze costs, negotiate contract details, and offer strategies and solutions for better management of costs on supplies and services.
  • Ensure full compliance of procurement activities with Public Procurement and Asset Disposal (PPDA) requirements, Financial Rules and Regulations (FRR) and relevant procurement regulations.
  • To help in managing and monitor all transactional procurement processes for the Trust.
  • Perform risk management for supply contracts and agreements.
  • Process documentation for importation of goods and arrange for customs clearance of imported goods.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual procurement plans and progress reports as required
  • To assist in managing current needs and strategize with Heads of Departments and suppliers to ensure the Trust’s future needs will be seamlessly met.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Malawi Schools Certificate of Education.
  • Professional CIPS Diploma from a recognized institution.
  • Three years of work experience in procurement.
  • Proficient in use of computers and computer software relevant to the position.
