Opulence is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering communities across Dowa through sustainable development initiatives. With a primary focus on education, sustainable agriculture, economic empowerment, and water, sanitation, and hygiene, Opulence works closely with local communities and stakeholders to drive impactful change, build resilience, and improve livelihoods. As we prepare to open our Community Library in Madisi under the Enhancing Education through Community Libraries project, we seek motivated individuals to fill in the position of Assistant Librarian to support our mission of promoting literacy and learning within the community.

Assistant Librarian

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform cataloguing and classification of library materials
  • Maintain a library collection by organizing and shelving books, periodicals and other materials accurately and efficiently
  • Administer and manage the library circulation system, including registering new library members, issuing library cards, checking in and out, and maintaining accurate record
  • Help plan and participate in library events and workshops
  • Examine books for damage, repair and facilitate repair when needed
  • Keep the library space clean, safe, and organized.
  • Assist in preparing seasonal display, exhibits and bulletin boards throughout the
  • Teach people how to use library resources
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of a Malawi School Certificate of Examination (MSCE)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Passion for community service
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Proficiency in English
