Location: Lilongwe, Malawi

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Accounts Clerk will be responsible for maintaining proper financial records, running reports, and recording a wide range of transactions. The role includes providing administrative assistance to management as well as preparing statements that confirm accuracy of database information.

CORE TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a point of contact between the organization and its environment
  • Organize and process financial transactions. ie. invoices and payments.
  • Keep a systematic record of business transactions and enter daily work
  • Logs into the company’s general ledger system
  • Reconcile accounts in a timely manner. i.e. general ledger, bank, petty cash, receivables and payables accounts
  • Prepare month-end reports. i.e. trial balance, receivables and payables, age analysis
  • Ensuring meticulous implementation of payroll and benefits administration
  • Remitting VAT, PAYE, WHT & TEVET Levy to tax authorities
  • Updating Asset Register
  • Performing clerical work and interoffice support including receiving and processing mails
  • Assisting in running period end by producing relevant audit schedules
  • Ensure all legal and regulatory documents are filed and monitor compliance with laws and regulations
  • Managing office supplies and overseeing the health and safety of all employees

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma in Accounting (ICAM/CAT) or any related field. Those with ICAM membership will have a plus
  • Clear understanding of basic accounting principles (GAAPs) and IFRS
  • Competency in MS Office, database and accounting software (QuickBooks Enterprise Solution or Sage 50c)
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Aptitude for numbers and well organized
  • Ability to perform filing and record keeping tasks
  • Excellent English writing and speaking, excellent organization and time management skills
  • An experience in Accounting, Finance or Administration or HVAC will be a plus
