VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to be considered for the following academic vacant posts in various academic departments under the Faculty of Agriculture at its Bunda College campus.
A. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING
i. Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer or Staff Associate in Environmental Engineering
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering or any related field obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Environmental
- Engineering or any related field for a Lecturer and above.
ii. Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer or Staff Associate in Agricultural Engineering
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering or any related field obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Agricultural Engineering or any related field for a Lecturer and above.
iii. Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer or Staff Associate in Food Processing Engineering
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Food Processing Engineering or Food Technology or any related field obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Food Processing Engineering or any related field for a Lecturer and above
B. DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL SCIENCE
i. Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer or Staff Associate in Animal Health and Welfare
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine or any related field obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Veterinary Medicine or any related field for a Lecturer and above.
ii. Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer or Staff Associate in Anatomy and Physiology
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Animal Science or Veterinary Medicine with a major in Anatomy and Physiology obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Animal Science or Veterinary Medicine or any related field for a Lecturer and above.
C. DEPARTMENT OF CROP AND SOIL SCIENCES
i. Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer or Staff Associate in Plant Pathology
Qualifications
- Minimum ofa Master’s degree in Plant Pathology with a specialization in Plant Virology and Nematology or any related field obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Plant Pathology and nematology specializing in Plant Virology or any related field for a Lecturer and above.
ii. Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer or Staff Associate in Seed Science
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Seed Science, Seed Technology, Agronomy or any related field obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Seed Science or Agronomy with a specialization in Seed Technology or any related field for a Lecturer and above.
iii. Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer or Staff Associate in Plant Biotechnology and Biosafety
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Plant Biotechnology, Biosafety, Molecular Biology or any related field obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Biotechnology, Biosafety, Molecular Biology or any related field for a Lecturer and above.
D. DEPARTMENT OF HORTICULTURE
i. Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer or Staff Associate in Horticulture
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Horticulture or any related field obtained from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Horticulture or any related field for a Lecturer and above.
ii. Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer or Staff Associate in Biotechnology
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology or any related field from a recognized University for an Assistant Lecturer and PhD in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology or any related field for a Lecturer and above.
Other requirements
- Interested candidates must have a first degree in any related field with at least a credit from a reputable University.
- Those who are concluding their Master’s degree training may apply but must indicate progress towards the conclusion of the degree and the probable dates of completion.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching at the University level or developing curricula in related fields.
- A strong track record of research and publications in reputable journals.
- Candidates applying for the post of Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/ Professor must show proof of publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals.
- Applicants for the post of Lecturer in Animal Health and Welfare must be practicing and registered Veterinarians with more than five years of working experience. Those with an
- MSc in Animal Science must have background qualifications in Veterinary Science.
- Applicants for the post of Lecturer in Anatomy and Physiology must have strong knowledge of Small Anatomy and Physiology.
Key duties and responsibilities
A. Teaching and Instruction
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in language and communication.
- Prepare and update course syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods to engage students and enhance their learning experience.
- Conduct lectures, seminars, workshops, and tutorials.
- Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and projects.
B. Curriculum Development
- Design and revise curriculum to meet academic standards and industry needs.
- Integrate current research, technology, and innovative practices into the curriculum.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary courses and programs.
C. Research and Scholarship
- Conduct original research in the field of language and communication.
- Publish research findings in reputable academic journals and present at conferences.
- Seek and secure research funding and grants.
- Supervise student research projects, theses, and dissertations.
D. Student Mentorship
- Provide academic advising and career guidance to students.
- Mentor students in their academic and professional development.
- Support students in their preparation for internships, job placements, and further studies.
E. Community Engagement
- Participate in community outreach and public engagement activities.
- Develop and deliver workshops, training sessions, and public lectures.
F. Quality Assurance
- Participate in the assessment and improvement of teaching and learning practices.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional requirements.
- Collect and analyze feedback from students and peers to enhance the quality of education.
G. Resource Mobilization
- Develop and submit grant proposals for research and consultancy.
- Manage research projects.
- Conduct short courses.
H. Administrative Duties
- Serve on departmental, faculty, and university committees.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
- Assist in the planning and organization of departmental events and activities.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the relevant University Authorities.
Terms and Conditions of Engagement
All the successful candidates will be engaged on an initial 2-year contract before they can be considered for permanent appointment based on satisfactory performance for Lecturers and above and permanent appointment subject to acquisition of a PhD and satisfactory performance for Assistant Lecturers. Remuneration will be in line with LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service applicable to staff on fixed-term contract.
