The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), an organization entrusted with the assessment, collection, and accounting for tax revenues for the Malawi Government, is inviting applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates to fill the vacant positions of Forensic officers in the Tax Investigations Division.

Duty Station Head Office – Blantyre
Grade D2

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performing forensic investigations on allegations of suspected violations of tax and other financial crime laws within budget and agreed time lines.
  • Conducting forensic analysis of extracted data from electronic devices for intelligence & evidence purposes using forensic commercial tools and applications.
  • Detecting tax evasion activities through forensic analysis.
  • Conducting forensic examinations in adherence to the Criminal Procedure & Evidence Code, E-Transactions and Cyber Security Act 2016 and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Providing on-the-scene forensic review of the evidence to ensure that all relevant evidence is seized/ acquired & secured.
  • Ensuring that the evidence is properly packaged; marked/ labelled, photographed for easy identification.
  • Maintaining an evidence log and a register for chain of custody.
  • Preserving the integrity of any devices including digital data stored therein subject to investigations.
  • Organizing the artifacts to be included in a final report, upon searching the data, identifying, & marking the significant pieces of evidence.
  • Testifying in courts of law as expert witness on forensic evidence.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • The candidate must possess the following qualifications and experience: A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics and Computer Science/ Information and Technology.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in fraud investigation and taxation, auditing, or accounting role.
  • Certification in Digital Forensic tools or Data Mining tools will be an added advantage.

Successful candidates before being appointed will undergo an extensive background check of their integrity and conduct. Only when the vetting exercise is favourable shall the Authority make an offer.
