VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT:

Project Officers (2)

LUANAR seeks to recruit two Project Officers located in Zomba (Lake Chilwa) and Salima (Lake Malawi). The successful candidates will be responsible for carrying out an action research by collecting data in designated fish landing sites along both lakes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Co-develop the assessment framework and apply it at national level during the first national workshop in August and assist with taking notes during the plenary sessions and in the small group discussions.
  • Take notes during key informant interviews as part of the national level assessment.
  • Assist with the collation of secondary data as part of the adaptive governance capacity assessment (data could be at national, district, water body and community levels).
  • Organise and taking notes during interviews during District workshops (4)
  • Mobilise people, taking notes, and undertake interviews.
  • Study on knowledge generation and assist with study planning, interviewing and observation, writing up notes and analysis.
  • Study on fishing practices and assist with study planning, interviewing and observation, writing up notes and analysis.
  • Assist with planning workshops, where findings from assessments and studies will be shared.
  • Interview stakeholders, collect data and write up notes during field visits to the pilot study sites each month, as seen fit.
  • Join the monthly network meetings and take notes
  • Help organise and take notes at national workshop at which draft adaptive fisheries governance plans will be shared and further developed.
  • Present collected and transcribed data and make presentations to the Project Coordinator when required;
  • Assist the project team in the preparation of periodic technical reports;
  • Facilitate publicity of the project and its activities in liaison with District Fisheries Officer; and
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Coordinator from time to time

Key Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries Science, Natural Resources, or related fields from an accredited University;
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in carrying out social surveys, community development or related work;
  • Must have experience in doing field surveys
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Excel applications, SPSS or any other statistical software packages;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Must be proficient in organizational and interpersonal knowledge, skills and practices;
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills;
  • Impeccable integrity; and,
  • Willingness to work in the field for extended hours when necessary.

Conditions of Engagement:

The successful candidates shall be engaged on a contract basis for the duration of the project subject to satisfactory annual performance.
