Country: Malawi

Purpose of the Job:

To ensure the efficient and effective implementation of WBR Programs in line with the organization’s strategic objectives.

We are a mission-driven, global not-for-profit that manages a highly refined bicycle supply chain from design through final distribution. World Bicycle Relief uses an innovative business model to create sustainable bicycle ecosystems. Through World Bicycle Relief’s 501(c)3, we provide transport solutions to those who cannot afford them, and through Buffalo Bicycle Limited, we sell the rugged Buffalo Bicycle and spare parts. Buffalo Bicycle Limited also offers users repair and maintenance services via trained local mechanics and a retail network of more than 100 shops. WBR has distributed more than 785,331fit-for-purpose bicycles and trained 3,388 community-based mechanics. Girls with Buffalo Bicycles are 19% less likely to drop out of school; dairy farmers earn 23% more income; and health workers reach 88% more patients

Reporting Relationship: Country Director Malawi (Working closely with Malawi PSII team)

Job Specifications

  1. Coordinate with partner organisation, district government officials (education, health, district council etc.), WBR PSIl, logistics and finance teams.
  2. Identify and liaise with appropriate development partners in the health, education and economic development sectors. Work with the partners to develop interventions and the allocation of Buffalo Bicycles into the three sectors.
  3. Develop with the Partner Organizations in Malawi a reporting system to track the progress of implementation of the WBR funded bicycles. Consolidate the relevant partner reports and ensure the sustainability of the WBR funded bicycles in the various programs.
  4. In partnership with the Country Director be sure to represent WBR and Buffalo Bicycles Malawi in district level coordination meetings and other engagements with development partners in the district.
  5. Engage implementing partners for excellence in community mobilization, including regular reporting, regular feedback on project objectives.
  6. Build capacity of implementing partners to implement WBR programs for high levels of sustainability.
  7. Facilitate donor and WBR leadership visits to WBR programs in collaboration with development partners
  8. Support the development of the Malawi Program Strategy, Innovations, Log frames, and DiPs and the regular reporting on progress and challenges within the WBR Programs structure with the support of the Malawi country team.
  9. Work closely with the WBR M&E Manager to ensure that all Programmatic learnings are incorporated into WBR programs.
  10. As appropriate collect WBR Program impact stories
  11. Carries out any other duties, related to the job, assigned by management as and when required.

Internal/External Relationships: WBR / BBM staff, implementing partner staff, local government, and traditional authorities.

Working conditions: local travel to support Program activities; at times may be necessary to work extra time outside of normal office hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences and or other related qualification.
  • 5 years of experience in project management, business development. Added advantage experience in the development sector working with NGOs, foundations or CSR department of private sector company.
  • Ability to juggle several competing priorities from different partners/customers at the same time.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills, to build and maintain contact networks across a broad range of clients/customers (government, NGOs and development partners, civil society and private sector entities).
  • Attention to detail and deep analytical mind-set.
  • Excellent planning, good coordination and facilitation skills
  • Good people management and interpersonal skills, ability to innovate and reengineer processes.
  • Required an ability to read and write in English
