Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) Malawi is a locally registered NGO that has been operating in Malawi since 1995. Our mission is to work with the communities by promoting social and economic development through health, education training, food security and environmental programs. Our work towards development is guided by social cohesion and respect for humanity, driven by innovative and cost-effective programs. Through a variety of development models, DAPP complements the government’s effort in implementing the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy III.

DAPP Mikolongwe Vocational School-MVS is centered on equipping the youths with technical skills and knowledge for them to become productive youths, able to secure employment and/or become self-reliant by starting up small-scale businesses, thereby alleviating their poverty and to mobilize these youth to use their skills and full potential to create development at and through the community where they will be working.

DAPP Mikolongwe entered into work partnership with British Council under VET Toolbox project. The project aims at enhancing commercial farming in the Shire valley and intends to pilot TVET courses and Work Experience Learning (WEL) placement in collaboration with private sector and industry players in the Shire Valley. It is a 4 months program, 2 months in campus and the other 2 months in the industrial attachment.

Therefore, we are inviting suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the vacant position of Irrigation Instructor. Good Instructors are hardworking, passionate and determined people who want to make a difference in their students’ education. They enjoy working with students in their grade range and can empathize with the challenges learners experience when attending courses. This program requires instructors who are highly patient and can stay calm in hectic environment, deflecting disruptive behavior while maintaining a positive dynamic with students.

Irrigation Instructor

Key responsibilities

  1. Teaching students about Irrigation principles, techniques and best practices
  2. Developing lessons plans, scheme and instructional materials for irrigation trade
  3. Demonstrating proper irrigation equipment use and maintenance
  4. Providing hands on training in irrigation system design and installation
  5. Assessing student comprehension and progress through assessments and assignments
  6. Offering guidance and support to students to help them succeed in their irrigation studies
  7. Keeping up to date advancements in irrigation technology
  8. Collaborating with other faculty members to enhance the irrigation program
  9. Participating in faculty meetings, professional development activities and student advising sessions
  10. Ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Qualifications and attributes

  • Diploma in Agriculture /Irrigation Technology with at least three years’ experience.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office
  • Organizational skills and time management.
  • Flexibility and should be ready to work old hours including weekends
  • He/she should possess a strong set of skills in order to perform the duties outside the box
