FEBRUARY 2025 INTAKE
The Catholic University of Malawi invites suitably qualified persons to apply for various programmes tenable at its main Campus in Nguludi, Chiradzulu.
To be considered, candidates must apply by completing and submitting their application forms.
Admission into generic/full-time programmes is through
(1) University Entrance Examinations (UEE);
(2) Consideration of relevant papers and certificates;
(3) Bridging.
METHOD OF APPLICATION
Applicants can apply using one of the following methods

Application forms are available at the following places: the university Campus at Montfort-Nguludi in Chiradzulu, the Catholic Secretariat (Area 11, Lilongwe), St. John’s Secondary School (Lilongwe), Mary Mount Secondary School and Mzuzu Technical College (Mzuzu), and all Catholic Diocesan Education Offices (Karonga, Mzuzu, Lilongwe, Dedza, Mangochi, Zomba, Blantyre, Chikwawa).

Applicants should pay a non-refundable application fee of MK20,000 (for local students) or USD25 (for foreign students) deposited into any of the following University Bank Accounts:

APPLICATION PACKAGE
Applicants must ensure that they submit a complete set of documents as listed below:
- Completed application form
- Copy of certificate or copy of notification of results
iii. Copy of the bank deposit slip for the non-refundable application fee
- Letter of commitment for financial support
- Recent passport-size photograph

ROUTE 1: ADMISSION THROUGH UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS
- Apply using application forms clearly marked “Admission through Entrance Examinations.”
- Eligible applicants are those with MSCE or its equivalent, and with credits in six subjects including English. IGCSE equivalence of MSCE is as follows: A*=1, A=2, B=3, C=5, D=7, E, F, G=8
- Eligible applicants will sit for University Entrance Examinations on Saturday, 23rd November, 2024 starting at 8 a.m.
- University Entrance Examinations will consist of three papers: Reasoning Skills; Numerical Skills; and English & Communication Skills.
THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATION FORMS is Saturday 16th November, 2024.
- Names of successful candidates will be released on Friday, 14th December, 2024.
- Successful candidates will report for classes on Monday, 17th February, 2025.
NOTE: No individual has been mandated by the University to conduct coaching for the
University Entrance Examinations
ROUTE 2: ADMISSION THROUGH CONSIDERATION OF PAPERS AND CERTIFICATES
Apply using application forms clearly marked “Admission through Consideration of
Post-Secondary Certificates”.“A” Level Qualification
- Candidates with “A” Level qualification must have a minimum of three principal passes with an aggregate of at least 9 points. For purposes of selection, A-Level is interpreted as follows: A=5, B=4, C=3. Such candidates will not be required to sit for the University Entrance Examinations.
Other Advanced Post-Secondary Certificates
- The University also considers those with advanced certificates and diplomas from
recognised and accredited institutions in the relevant areas of study. Candidates who
apply using such qualifications are vetted by respective Faculties on a case-by-case basis to determine their eligibility and level of entry. Such candidates will not be required to sit for the University Entrance Exams.

GOVERNMENT LOANS
The Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board (HESLGB) provides loans to needy and deserving students equivalent to one Semester. Such students are expected to pay on their own the required fees for the first semester.
UNIVERSITY ACCOMMODATION POLICY
Admission into the University programmes is not tied to available on-campus accommodation. On-campus accommodation is provided subject to availability of bed space and upon payment of full accommodation fees (K180,000.00/semester for University hostels) deposited into any of the University’s accounts.

ROUTE 3: ADMISSION THROUGH THE BRIDGING PROGRAMME
Apply using application forms clearly marked “Admission through Bridging Programme.”
- The Bridging Programme will run from 16th December 2024 to 25th January, 2025.
- The closing date for receiving such applications is 30th November, 2024.
- Applicants will arrive on Monday, 16th December, 2024.
- Upon successful completion of the Bridging programme, a person will be eligible to enroll in one of the University programmes listed in the application form.
ELIGIBILITY FOR THE BRIDGING PROGRAMME/ WHO SHOULD APPLY
Those with Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), or its equivalent, with six credits including English.
The university interpretation of IGCSE and O-Level as an equivalent to MSCE is as follows:
IGCSE; A*=1, A=2, B=3, C=5, D=7, E=8, F=9
GCE O-Level; A=1, B=3, C=5, D=7; E=8
BRIDGING PROGRAMME OUTLINE
Successful applicants shall be enrolled and register for four courses which shall be examined at the end of the programme. The following courses are offered during the Bridging Programme:
- Numerical Skills,
- Information & Computer Technology,
- Communication & Study Skills,
- Critical Thinking.
Only those who pass will be eligible for admission into one of the programmes of study.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Admission into a university degree programme is subject to
(i) Passing Bridging Examination in all courses (for those who already possess certificates).
(ii) Passing Bridging Examination in all courses and MSCE with credits in six subjects including English.
(iii) Satisfying additional specific programme requirements demanded by the various
Faculties as specified in the Application Form. This means that upon successful
completion of the Bridging Programme, candidates will be guided by Deans of
Faculty on the programme they qualify for.
