Food and Nutrition Security Programme
Call for Proposal – Advertisement Agency
Introduction
The GIZ Food and Nutrition Security Programme (FNSP) aims to improve the nutrition situation of women and children under 24 months in the districts of Dedza and Salima. The program is implemented through partners including CARE and Self-Help Africa. Between February 2015 and March 2025, FNSP focuses on enhancing the nutritional status of women and young children by increasing dietary diversity, building the institutional capacities of relevant authorities, and contributing to more effective national policies. The project’s success depends on its ability to enable and motivate the priority groups to consume diversified diets and adopt good hygiene practices and safer ways of handling food.
Context
Developing educational materials in a “What-Why-How” format can significantly enhance behavior change. This approach provides a clear structure, helping learners understand, retain, and apply the material effectively. It encourages critical thinking by explaining the rationale behind behavior changes and offering practical strategies for implementation. The WHO has successfully used this framework to promote behavior change globally through its Five Keys to Safer Foods Guide. However, the current guide lacks guidance on managing mycotoxins and is tailored to developed countries, emphasizing freezing and refrigeration, which is not always practical in Malawi.
To address these gaps, GIZ-FNSP seeks to engage a food safety expert to adapt the WHO’s Five Keys for Food Safety manual to the Malawian context and to develop IEC materials for behavior change communication an adaptation that will support the ongoing work of FNSP in enhancing food safety among caregivers.
