Mzuzu University Trust Fund was established under the Mzuzu University Act (No. 12 of 1997) and the Trust Deed of May 5, 1998. It is a tool and legal mechanism through which Mzuzu University can enter into business, commercial dealings and transactions with both the public and private sectors.

The Mzuzu University Trust Fund invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position:

Farm Supervisor
Reporting to the Trust Fund Manager, the Farm Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing operations of the Mzuzu University Mega Farm. He/She will be expected to maintain professional networks, be abreast of the developments in agricultural science, and be detail-oriented and have a hands-on approach to farm management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Providing leadership and overseeing the general management of farm operations;
  2. Analyzing existing operations, crops, livestock, staff and financial documents and recommending improvements;
  3. Preparing plans and schedules for planting and harvesting and ensuring that staff understand expectations;
  4. Visiting different divisions to inspect crops, livestock and also perform testes on soil and water for the farm;
  5. Ensuring seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and other supplies are regularly restocked and professionally utilized on the farm;
  6. Scheduling repairs, maintenance and replacement of equipment and machinery;
  7. Handling the marketing and sale of products produced on the farm;
  8. Ensuring all staff adheres to the health and safety regulations;
  9. Prepare budgets and financial reports in liaison with the Trust Fund Manager;
  10. Assisting with recruitment and training of farm staff; and
  11. Building professional networks and keeping abreast of the developments in agriculture sector.

Qualifications

  1. At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Crop Science, Animal Science, Agronomy or related fields obtained from a reputable and accredited institution of higher learning; and
  2. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in managing both crop and livestock production in a big farm.

  1. Excellent interpersonal skills, and able to deal with a diverse team including staff and stakeholders;
  2. Passion for agriculture;
  3. Ability to make decisions in stressful environments; and
  4. Ability to work at odd hours.
