The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Malawi (BCMF-M) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the Malawi government in the health sector. Our mission is to improve the health and lives of children and families with HIV, cancer and blood disorders through high quality, high impact, ethical, state of the art comprehensive care and treatment, training of health professionals and clinical research. We have a vibrant and thriving maternal health program main site at Area 25 Health Centre that ensures prevention/reduction of stillbirths, neonatal deaths and maternal morbidity and mortality. We are situated within the Kamuzu Central Hospital premises, opposite Kamuzu College of Nursing.
BCMCF-M invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of:
Position: Dispatch Rider
Reports to: Program Manager
Location: Area 25 Health Centre
Position Description:
The Dispatch Rider is responsible for the timely and safe transportation of medical documents, supplies, test samples, and other critical hospital items to various locations. The rider will ensure deliveries comply with medical standards, confidentiality requirements, and hospital protocols. This role is essential for supporting seamless hospital operations and patient care.
Essential Duties
- Transport sensitive items like lab samples, patient records, medical supplies between hospital departments, clinics and labs.
- Ensure urgent deliveries are completed promptly to support patient care, especially when dealing with critical samples or life saving equipment.
- Ensure all containers used for medical supplies and samples are cleaned and sanitized regularly.
- Accurately document pick ups and deliveries, maintaining a secure log of medical items transported for record keeping
- Conduct routine checks on the motorcycle and report any issues. Ensure the motorcycle is clean, well maintained and safe for medical deliveries.
- Work closely with nurses, doctors, lab technicians and other hospital staff to understand specific delivery requirements and timelines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Malawi School Certificate of Education
- Valid drivers and Motorcycle licenses
- 2 years’ experience as a dispatch rider
- Good knowledge of local routes and locations
