POSITION: SCHOOL MANAGER

The Education Department of the Diocese of Mzuzu invites applications from qualified, motivated, and practicing Catholic professionals to fill the position of School Manager at Marymount Girls Catholic Secondary School in Mzuzu. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead a highly reputable institution dedicated to empowering young women through quality education and holistic development rooted in Catholic values.

The successful candidate will report to the Education Coordinator through the School’s Board of Governors and will be responsible for advancing the school’s vision, mission, and objectives, as outlined in its School Development Improvement Plan (SDIP) and financial strategies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The School Manager will be expected to:

1. Leadership and Strategic Management:

  • Work collaboratively with the Board of Governors to implement and regularly update the School Development Improvement Plan.
  • Ensure the school meets and exceeds national education standards and aligns with the Catholic ethos.
  • Provide visionary leadership that inspires staff, students, and the wider school community.

2. Teaching and Learning Excellence:

  • Oversee the quality of teaching and learning, utilizing benchmarks to evaluate and improve student performance.
  • Monitor and support the professional development of teachers to ensure innovative and effective pedagogical practices.

3. Staff Management and Development:

  • Lead and manage both teaching and non-teaching staff, fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment.
  • Conduct regular performance appraisals and mentor staff to achieve their full potential.

4. Student Welfare and Discipline:

  • Foster a positive school culture that promotes student discipline, respect, and personal growth.
  • Oversee the implementation of policies that safeguard the well-being of all students.

5. Financial and Administrative Oversight:

  • Work with the Finance Manager to prepare and manage budgets, ensuring transparency and accountability in financial operations.
  • Safeguard school assets and ensure effective maintenance of facilities and resources.

6. Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, alumni, the Diocese, and the wider community to enhance school support and development.
  • Represent the school at educational forums, diocesan meetings, and public events.

7. Safeguarding and Child Protection

  • Ensure the school complies with all safeguarding and child protection policies, promoting a safe and secure environment for all students.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:

  1. Academic Qualifications:
    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
    • A Master’s Degree in Education or related field will be an added advantage.
  2. Professional Experience:
    • At least 5 years of senior management experience in a reputable secondary school.
  3. Age Requirement:
    • Preferably aged between 35 and 50 years.
  4. Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in computer applications for school management.
    • Strong knowledge of education standards and policies in Malawi.

5. Faith and Values:

  • Must be a practicing Catholic, with a strong commitment to the Catholic ethos.
