Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) Malawi is a locally registered NGO that has been operating in Malawi since 1995. Our mission is to work with the communities by promoting social and economic development through health, education training, food security and environmental programs. Our work in development is guided by social cohesion and respect for humanity, implemented through innovative and cost-effective programs. Through a variety of development models, DAPP complements the government’s effort in implementing the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy.
With funding from the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), DAPP Malawi is implementing the Determined, Resilient, AIDS-Free Mentored and Safe (DREAMS), a project called “Loto Langa” (LoLa) which targets Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) aged between 10 to 24 years with several layers of interventions including Social Asset Building, Violence Prevention, Economic Strengthening and Education Support, direct service delivery of HIV Testing, Family Planning and Condom Education. The project also targets parents of AGYW that are in DREAMS with Families Matter Program.
DAPP Malawi is inviting suitably qualified and experienced persons to apply for various positions under the DREAMS project which is being implemented in Blantyre and Chiradzulu districts.
Linkage Nurse- Blantyre
Reports to: District Technical Coordinator
S/he must have a strong understanding and willing to support initial and on-going prevention, care and support services for ART clients with much focus on the AGYW.
Job summary/ responsibilities:
The Linkage Nurse will lead and supervise the work of DREAMS at the Health Facilities in planning and implementation of the DREAMS Package & Models in the targeted Health Facilities. Linkage Nurses will support initial and on-going prevention, care and support services for ART clients with much focus on the AGYW, including linking newly diagnosed HIV positive clients to care, monitoring viral load and tracing clients with missed appointments together with health facility coordinators (ART, HTC, STIs, FP) etc., HDA and other service providers to Strengthen referral and Links within health system at the HFs and Communities.
Key Performance Areas
The Linkage Nurse is expected to do the following tasks, not limited to:
- Planning, reporting, coordination, collaboration, supervision and implementation.
- Provide overall leadership and management in the implementation of project activities with much focus on Referrals and Linkages of AGYW to the appropriate health services at the Health Facility.
- Coordinate project operations in collaboration with Health Facility coordinators (ART, HTC, STIs, FP) etc., HDA
- Collaborate with other departments and relevant stakeholders in designated Health Facilities.
- Ensure timely implementation of project activities at the health facility to achieve expected and high-quality results.
- Supervise the work of the HIV Diagnostic Assistant, including providing coaching and mentorship support
- The Linkage Nurse will work in complex environments and manage diverse teams to deliver impact within agreed timelines.
- This Linkage Nurse will ensure the activities meet stated goals and reporting requirements.
Qualification and Experience
Applicants should;
- Have/possess a valid motorbike license
- Have a minimum of a Diploma in Nursing or Midwifery Technician, obtained from a recognized institution
- Be registered with the Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi (active membership).
- Practical knowledge and experience relating to HTS (general service provision)
- Minimum of one year post internship working experience in high volume clinical environment.
- Capacity to work under pressure, make and implement administrative decisions
- Hands-on type of person, team player and builder able to coordinate activities in a complex environment and able to work under time pressure.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Willing to work long hours toward the attainment of program objectives and deliverables
- Ability to collaborate with different people of different backgrounds, literacy levels and social status
- Ability to monitor and evaluate program progress using designated tools
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision, at all times.
- Those who successfully worked with DREAMS / HTS/AGYW or FYHS Projects will have added advantage.
- Ready to start work a short notice
