Job Summary

The Accounts Assistant will be responsible for managing accounting transactions and balance sheets, preparing budget forecasts, reconcile accounts payables and receivables, compute taxes and prepare tax returns, handle financial transactions and documents and comply with financial policies and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Record and manage accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring timely payments and collections.
  • Handle cheque payment processing efficiently.
  • Manage petty cash, including disbursements, reconciliations, and replenishments.
  • Ensure that cash advances are liquidated on time.
  • Maintaining financial filing system, ensuring that all documents are properly filed, maintain the archive in an orderly manner, ensure that all files are well labelled with numbers and description.
  • Preparation of reports to support the management accounts and financial statements i.e. collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Preparing financial reports
  • Preparation for financial audit.

Qualification, Experience and Competencies

  • Certificate in Financial Accounting
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software like Sage, Pastel and with knowledge of general ledger functions
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft packages such as excel, word etc
  • Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills
  • Those who have worked in an NGO before will have an added advantage
