KANING’A CCAP CONGREGATION
VACANCY FOR THE POSITION OF CHURCH ACCOUNTANT
REPORTING TO: CHURCH ADMINISTRATOR
JOB TYPE: Three-year contract subject to renewal depending on performance
POSITION FUNCTION (PURPOSE):
The accountant will be responsible for managing the financial transactions of the church so that all income, expenses, assets, liabilities and fund balances are accurately controlled and reported.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The major duties and tasks of this job are.
- Receipting and recording weekly offerings/contributions to the main account and development account using the church’s accounting system.
- Authorizing payment vouchers for payments before final approval.
- Ensure that all requisitions have budget allocations.
- Updating the cash books daily.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliation statements by 10th of each month,
- Carrying out banking activities.
- Preparing monthly payroll and payment of salaries
- Preparing daily, monthly and annual reconciliations.
- Maintaining and managing petty cash books daily.
- Preparing settlement of utility bills e.g. water, electricity, telephones
- Maintaining an up-to-date backup of all electronic files
- Preparing monthly and quarterly financial reports for Session meetings.
- Assisting the Treasurer in formulating budgets which includes cash flow projections,
- Preparing year-end financial reports for annual meetings by 31st May, each year.
- Preparing for and cooperate with those appointed to perform yearly audit of financial records.
- Ensure that all transactions are processed in the church’s accounting system.
- Any other duties.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Accountancy from a recognized accountancy professional body.
- Registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM)
EXPERIENCE
- Not less than 5 years’ experience in a busy environment; at least two of which must be with a single employer.
KEY COMPENTENCIES/ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS:
- A demonstrated Christian faith commitment.
- Proven abilities to prepare and maintain final accounts.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Practical experience in the design and implementation of computerized accounting systems such as Sage Pastel, QuickBooks Sun Systems etc.
- Commendable track record working in a competitive and challenging environment.
- A commitment to good interpersonal relationships, teamwork and support of church ministries.
- Planning and analytical skills, diagnostic and problem-solving skills, initiative and ability to implement solutions.
- Initiative, resourcefulness, integrity, hard-working spirit, and ability to delegate responsibility.
- A commitment to confidentiality regarding all account’s records for the church, staff and the members.
- A commitment to work on Sundays.
- Be an innovative team player.
