BACKGROUND

Edukans is an international NGO specialized in education and training for underprivileged young people. Edukans believes that building a future starts with education as the basis and that good education is the key to a country’s sustainable development and hence its most durable investment. Since 2021, Edukans is implementing a strategic agenda (2021-2025) that covers basic education and vocational skills programmes.

Edukans is partnering with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO), One Billion (OB), and Imagine Worldwide (IW) to implement the Building Education Foundations through Innovation and Technology (BEFIT) program. Edukans will implement this program in Zomba, Mangochi and Machinga, and is inviting applications from suitable candidates to fill the above position(s):

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to Program Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day micro leadership and management of project implementation in line with the BEFIT design, Edukans policies, and the donor requirements in the designated program impact area. The incumbent will implement, monitor, coordinate, and facilitate project activities in partnership with decentralized government structures at district, zonal, cluster and community levels.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the project in equipping the public schools with the required technology and support systems that will facilitate and accelerate learners’ acquisition of reading and numeracy skills.
  • Actively mobilize and bring awareness to local school communities about the project and enhance local support for the program in schools
  • Organize and provide leadership at the district level in the implementation of Befit activities in collaboration with the district, school, and community-level stakeholders.
  • Support teachers and school leaders in school to deliver the program focusing on lesson facilitation, timetable management, and technical support
  • Collaborate with the technical team in building the users’ capacity on the use and care of tablets and related technology to enhance learners’ literacy and numeracy acquisition.
  • Provide feedback on the functionality of the technology and related systems so that any technical and technological glitches are fixed on time to achieve the smooth provision of services.
  • Support the DEM in the process of institutionalizing the use of technology in supporting foundation literacy and numeracy instruction in Malawi’s primary schools for long-term sustainability.
  • Support an existing network of technical officers at local school, zone, and district levels to address local technical challenges schools may encounter with the technology
  • In collaboration with the office of the DEM, conduct routine supervision of the impact area to check on the progress of the use of the technology.
  • Support in servicing monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning practices to inform implementation, linked to pupil achievement and quality accountability to all key stakeholders.
  • Document lessons learned best practices, case studies, and success stories or the impact of the project on learners’ acquisition of literacy and numeracy skills for learning and improvement of the project.
  • Timely submission monthly, quarterly, and annual project reports to the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma in Education from an accredited institution of higher learning. Those with Degree in Education have added advantage
  • Minimum of four years of work experience, at least two in teaching and two in program implementation.
  • Work experience in an International NGO setting is a plus.
  • Those with IT knowledge will have added advantage.

REMUNERATION

For this position, Edukans offers an attractive remuneration that includes salary, pension, medical scheme, and transport contribution (between office and work). However, the successful candidate should be ready for regular performance tracking and appraisal.
