Lilongwe Water Board

The Lilongwe Water Board is a Statutory Corporation established in 1947 and re-constituted in 1995 under the Water Works Act (Cap 72). It is responsible for the provision of water supply and sanitation services to the City of Lilongwe and other surrounding areas designated as its supply area. The Board is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates of Malawian origin to fill the following positions that exist within the Board.

Reports to : Senior Plant Operator
Responsible For: Plant Attendant

Purpose of the job

To provide plant operation services

Key Roles and responsibilities

  1. Carrying out operation of water abstraction, production and transmission plant within prescribed standards.
  2. Attending to immediate problems from the water production system
  3. Applying water treatment chemicals.
  4. Conducting daily checks on performance of water production system.
  5. Reporting and attending to faults or complaints from the dams, booster stations and reservoirs.
  6. Checking water levels silt deposition and algae growth and all intake works
  7. Maintaining general cleanliness of the water production premises.
  8. Supervising and appraising staff under his/her charge.
  9. Monitoring tank water levels and tank performance for corrective measures in addressing discrepancies
  10. Resetting water plant voltages.
  11. Preparing daily operational data.
  12. Carrying out the operation of the Dam.
  13. Enforcing safety precautions.
  14. Carrying out Dam inspection through reading and reporting instrumentation.
  15. Demonstrating outstanding commitment to service delivery programs of the Board by personally identifying and reporting water bursts/leakages to customer care Division of which verifiable repair records shall be tendered to be used as one of the components for assessment during one’s performance appraisal time;

Minimum academic and professional qualifications and experience

A minimum of Malawi School Certificate of Education plus Level one (1) Water Treatment Certificate.
