CARE Malawi has secured funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program, locally titled ‘Tiwoloka’. The funding runs from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2029. CARE Malawi will implement the project in partnership with the Forum for African Women Educationists in

Malawi (FAWEMA) and Water Aid.

Therefore, CARE Malawi seeks to recruit well qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions within its USDA funded McGovern dole Food for Education program i.e. Tiwoloka Project in Malawi:

FINANCE ASSISTANT

Position Description

The Finance Assistant will be responsible for overall support in daily CARE Malawi and Tiwoloka project operations of the finance section. The Finance Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Account Payable Analyst to ensure payments are made on time to vendors, with valid and accurate support documentation. He/she also helps the AP Analyst in recording transactions in AR and Cash Management module and support in the month end close processes as well as audits.

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist in the review of monthly bank statements and prepare the bank fees charging template for review by the AP analyst.
  • Assist in reviewing bank statements and ensure that all noted errors are resolved, and that bank charges template is submitted to Shared Service Centre.
  • Recording all deposits in accounting software before month end close.
  • Review the staff project advances ensuring that proper documentation is attached before submitting it for approval to project manager.
  • Assist with the compilation of VAT Claims for all USG funded projects for submission to Malawi Revenue Authority.
  • Assist with checking of the partners and project staff advance liquidations.
  • Ensure that all financial documents are filed properly and on time.
  • Assists the AP analyst in reviewing all Accounts Payable transactions requests before submission to Shares Service Centre.
  • Assist in responding to the Fixed Asset Register report’s action points including assisting in resolving unreconciled items on bank reconciliation.

Required education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accountancy, Finance or Administration or Completion of ACCA Stage II.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting or auditing department of a busy Organization.
  • Good communication skills in Local language with English an advantage.
  • Ability to fill in forms and write reports and make accurate calculations.
